Arlington, Texas - Family, friends, and fellow racers gathered in Texas today to pay their last respects to Buddy Morrison.
Buddy Morrison succumbed to cancer on December 15th. The Memorial Service was delayed so it would not interfere with the Christmas plans of his friends and family. Although the delay was a decision by his family, this was exactly the way Buddy Morrison would have wanted it as he was always a considerate, gentle giant.
Several friends and family members remembered Buddy by sharing their experiences with the big bear of a man who was quiet, but never at a loss for words on almost any subject.
Most spoke of Buddy's passion for flying and racing, although his interests were much more diverse. Diane Williams, wife of Mark Williams, spoke of their many vacations with Buddy, Buddy's wife, and the Shelties. As Diane recounted, Buddy mastered many of the mechanical challenges that were presented to him during his lifetime, but one thing that never ceased to amaze him was the beauty of nature.
Buddy Morrison loved the outdoors and his expertise at flying allowed him to travel to places most of us seldom get to see. This was a side of Buddy that many of us didn't know.
The attendees at the Memorial Service were a who's-who of motor sports and
the chapel was standing-room-only. Buddy's friends traveled from all over
the United States to remember a man who leaves a legacy in racing that few
will ever equal, but even that pales in comparison to the legacy Buddy
Morrison leaves behind as a man who always had time for his friends. Today
his friends found time to remember him.
