FAIRLAWN, Va. -- Matt Hagan Outdoors will have its grand opening on Friday with its namesake, 2011 NHRA Funny Car world champion Matt Hagan and his 320-mph Rocky Boots Dodge Charger R/T on hand for the celebration.
Matt Hagan Outdoors (6131 Warren Newcomb Drive, Radford, Va., 24141) is a 6,000-square-foot Western-themed store that features a full line of boots and apparel from Rocky Brands along with Ariat, Durango and Georgia Boot. Also featured is a selection of Western-themed jewelry including unique items from Lizzy J's Bullet Jewelry that makes stunning pieces from shotgun shells.
"I feel like a kid in a candy store every time I walk inside," said Hagan, a lifelong hunter and outdoorsman, who operates his 1,000-acre family cattle farm in nearby Christiansburg. "This is a perfect location of us and we're going to focus on giving hunters in the community everything they want."
Matt Hagan Outdoors officially opened Nov. 25 across from the Kroger grocery store on Lee Highway in Fairlawn, but the big coming out party is Friday. Matt, 31, will be signing autographs from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with his Rocky Boots Funny Car. Also featured will be a live radio remote with 96.3-FM - The Rock of Virginia - and prize drawings for numerous items including boots, apparel and jeans.
The store features a warm, comfortable atmosphere with a customer lounge that offers free coffee.
"We didn't want it to look like anything else in the New River Valley," said Al Shelor, the store's general manager.
"It's just cool to be able to bring a new business to the Radford area," Hagan added.
Hagan is coming off his fifth season with Don Schumacher Racing when he won a career-best five NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series race titles, the last of which was on Nov. 10 in the season-finale at Pomona, Calif.
