MONTGOMERY, Ala. --
The plan for today was one time trial followed immediately by eliminations. Because Thursday's event was rained out in its entirety, officials opted to simply roll over the purse which effectively doubled Friday's Triple 20, making it $40,000 to win, with all other places doubled.
As has been the case lately at high-dollar races, door cars were kept separate from dragsters as long as possible. Partly because of that fact, this event hosted over 150 door cars alone. Eliminations began at 2:10 and by the time 6:20 rolled around, 477 cars from 26 states and Canada had completed the first round marathon session.
With a great effort by the Montgomery Motorsports Park crew, all was running well until midway through the fourth round when Mother Nature decided to bring some moisture up from the Gulf of Mexico and deposit it on the track surface. With a cold front coming in behind the rain and the 11:00 hour sneaking in with only eight cars left to finish the fourth round, officials were forced to end the race. According to the rules in place, "if a rain-out occurs during a round, we will go back to the previous round and all purse money will be split equally to remaining entrants."
Saturday morning will begin for Million Dollar Race entrants beginning at 9:00.
