NORWALK, Ohio - 4:45 p.m. - The Summit Racing Equipment Shakedown at the Summit got off to a shaky start Thursday when the nine-hour Test & Tune session was rained out.
Just a few cars got down the track before the first of a "train" of weather cells shut things down.
The rain stopped and the Summit Racing Equipment Motorsports Park track crew got the racing surface dried in short order.
Cars were called to the lanes and arrived just in time for the next weather cell to wet the track down again.
Race officials waited to see if the weather would improve, but it didn't. The unfavorable weather pattern stretches all the way into mid-Indiana, with several more weather calls headed for Norwalk.
That's the bad news. The good news is that once-pessimistic weather forecasts for Friday and Saturday have changed for the better.
Gates will open at 8 a.m. Friday for the first day of qualifying, leading to Sunday's eliminations.
