SALEM, Ohio -- The Buckeye S/SS Drag Racing Series was at the historic Quaker City Motorsports Park in Salem,OH this weekend August 3rd. There were twenty nine racers that came despite the rain that was affecting much of the state. Weather was impeccable at the track and action started at 1:00 sharp
The first time trial session the Mid Ohio Paving sponsored dial for dollars was contested and a few just missed the money by being under a few thousands or so, but on the good side of the dial in, the closest racer was Jeff Day driving his A/SA '64 Plymouth. Jeff was dialed a 10.84 and ran a 10.864 to pocket the $100.
The first round there were thirteen pair and a natural bye and the single by Terry Knott when his competition did not show. After the settling of the dust the best winning first round package went to the '66 Chevy II of Dan Steed. Dan was .016 and ran 10.647 on his 10.62 dial for the Parsons & Myers Racing Engines sponsored cash of$100.
The semifinal round was a all Mopar affair.Jeff Ross in the F/SA '72 Barracuda,Matt Betzel's '64 Belvedere N/SS, Tim Kost,Jr in his N/SS '63 Savoy, and John Buhler's '64 Hemi Dodge. Betzel's -.003 light sent Ross to the final (Ross was .027 on the tree) and Buhler advanced off of the -.005 of Kost,Jr.
Buhler and his big Dodge was solid in the twenties with his lights all day as was Jeff Ross.
The two Mopars lined up for the final and this time it was Ross who pulled the trigger with a -.005 handing the win to Buhler. This is John's second Buckeye S/SS win at Quaker in the last three years. Both drivers legged it out and the F/SA Barracuda ran an 11.296 on a 11.30 dial in and the Dodge was 9.784 on the 9.77 dial.
We want to thank the ownership and track personnel for providing a perfect track as well as a very timely program, and the opportunity to race there. Quaker City has made very positive improvements the last couple of years and Norm Fox and crew should be proud.
