KERRVILLE, Texas --

Pat Musi Racing Engines has long been known for its 903 cubic-inch fuel injected nitrous racing engine that has become a popular choice for numerous Pro Nitrous and X-Treme Pro Modified standouts.

But Musi also has a great deal to offer to the talented drivers in the sportsman ranks and that will become even more evident at the X-DRL's upcoming Mayhem at the Creek, which takes place July 26-27 at Maryland International Raceway.

There, Pat Musi Racing Engines is sponsoring half of the Mickey Thompson Top Sportsman entry fees for the event, lowering the entry fee to just $125 per competitor at the race.

"I love racing at Maryland International Raceway," Musi said. "In fact, I hold the Pro Mod Nitrous quarter-mile record of 5.926 at 241.58 mph, set in 2011. But I also have strong ties to sportsman racers; my daughter Lizzy races in that class, and I am always glad to help them out if I can. This is something I really wanted to do and I look forward to seeing a large competitor count in the class at MIR."

That is evident in sponsoring half of the entry fees at the Mayhem at the Creek for all Mickey Thompson Top Sportsman racers. The X-DRL is also supporting the class by waiving membership requirements and allowing IHRA-certified chassis and licenses for this event. With the maximum dial-in increase to 4.99 in May, the X-DRL is making the Mayhem at the Creek the place for top sportsmen to race.

"Sportsmen racers represent the heart of racing and we are glad to see these changes from the X-DRL as well as support from a legendary name in racing like Pat Musi for our first X-DRL event," said Royce Miller, owner/operator at MIR.

Musi, who plans to be at the race with Lizzy, is also adding a $300 contingency sponsorship for his water-injected system used by many top sportsman drivers.

"It's a great system, it saves parts and helps you get more runs out of your engine, so it only makes sense to add a contingency sponsorship for this system at the Mayhem at the Creek for the Mickey Thompson Top Sportsman class, even if they don't run our engines," Musi said.

Musi's list of successful customers includes the likes of Rickie Smith, Robert Patrick, John Hall, Chuck Mohn, his daughter, Lizzy, and many more. Musi, who has eight championship titles racing in the Pro Street class, recently moved his race shop to Mooresville, N.C. The new, 11,000-square foot state-of-the-art facility offers a multitude of services, giving Musi and his 40-year business a chance for even more growth.
