SAN DIMAS, Calif. -- March Meet Meet Today it was announced that CP-Carrillo has increased its involvement with the Jam-Air Motorsports Funny Car team and the world of Nostalgia Drag Racing as a whole by becoming the primary sponsor of the Jam-Air Motorsports team for the 55th annual March Meet next week in Bakersfield, CA.
"I'm speechless and still in shock" said driver Will Martin. "I got the phone call late Tuesday night from Cindy at CP and I was speechless. Snake, Barry, Richard, and Cindy have been nothing short of amazing to us and we are very grateful for their continued support."
The Jam-Air Motorsports team recently tested at Auto Club Famoso Raceway and suffered a freak incident where a driveline issue caused a motor failure. "It was a freak deal, the car went out about 400 feet and then all of a sudden I could feel the driveshaft hitting the bottom of the seat and a loud noise." Somehow something in the tail section of the transmission let go and I couldn't catch the motor fast enough said Martin." The car ended up sliding around in its own oil on the top end and we went drifting a bit."
"That's the first time I've ever hurt a motor like that in my racing career" said Co-Crew Chief Chris Nance. "It was a freak deal, Will tried to catch it however in a deal like that it's almost impossible to do and it's real easy to over rev the motor and that's what happened."Every run we made was a planned shut off as I am still getting the fuel system balanced. Every run was showing low 5.80 performance or better to half track. All of us at Jam-Air Motorsports are humble and grateful that CP-Carrillo stepped up and helped us when we needed it and that we now have a chance to compete at the March Meet."
"We are excited about our partnership with Jam Air Motorsports for the upcoming 2013 race season. Will and his team are a professional entity and we look forward to combining our resources to further our development of products. " said Cindy Verkooij, Marketing & Promotions Manager of CP-Carrillo.
The 55th annual March Meet has special meaning to the team. 25 years ago team founder John Martin won the last "modern day" March Meet and set the track ET record in Top Fuel Funny Car. Currently team owner John Martin has been battling some sudden and severe health issues that have been keeping him away from his business and the race team." I don't think a race means more to me than the upcoming March Meet said driver Will Martin. We almost pulled the plug on testing and the first few races due to dad's health however dad, being the true racer he is said go test and get ready to kick butt, so that's what we are trying to do. The team is hopeful they can help him on the road to recovery with a race win.
The Jam-Air Motorsports team will also receive additional support from: Prolong Super Lubricants, Tejon Indian Tribe, FIE, Williams Performance, Chancellor Tool, Keigley Promotional Group, and Pro Manufacturing.
