MOHNTON, Pa. - It was a very quick weekend at the NHRA Pennsylvania Dutch Classic at Maple Grove Weekend.
It's a four-day event that features nine NHRA Sportsman classes, so it might not seem that way. However with the cool, fall conditions over Southeastern Pennsylvania, The Grove certainly lived up as being the quickest and fastest dragstrip on the planet.
A weekend after three national and seven track records were set at the Auto-Plus NHRA Nationals, more than two dozen marks fell over the course of the Dutch Classic, which is also the NHRA Northeast Division Sony/P.C. Richard National Open.
The exact number of records is not yet known, as NHRA still has to certify some of the runs. A total of 436 cars, some from as far away as the Pacific Northwest and Canada were on hand for the event.
It was a very good weekend for some regional drivers, too.
Bobby Fazio (Norristown, Pa.) was the winner in the Super Stock category. In his 1964 Mustang, he beat Joe Teuton (Schriever, La.) in the final with a pass of 10.900 seconds at 113.12 mph.
