NORWALK, Ohio - Notes from round 3 qualifying in Extreme Pro Stock at the American Drag Racing League, ADRL Summit Racing Equipment Ohio Drags VI presented by Mickey Thompson listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Kevin Bealko Runs 4.090/176.56, Now #8; Best prior run: 6.305/73.58, Was #23
Right Lane: Jeff Dobbins Runs 6.737/68.32, Now #13; Best prior run: 4.101/175.55, Was #12
7:01 p.m. Conditions are the best they have been all day, possibly good enough for a three-second Pro Stock run. Scott Hintz is on the bump spot at 4.127.
Bealko bumped way into the field on a strong run. Dobbins shook and slowed.
Now Brian Gahm is on the bump spot at 4.108.
Left Lane: Tony Pontieri Runs 4.273/174.96, Now #22; Best prior run: 5.706/85.22, Was #22
Right Lane: Ron Miller Runs 4.147/169.74, Now #19; Best prior run: 4.196/172.43, Was #19
Both made full runs, neither made the field. There was some smoke from Pontieri's car, looked like a tire rubbing.
Left Lane: John Montecalvo Runs 5.019/153.16, Now #23; Best prior run: 6.203/93.48, Was #23
Right Lane: Richard Needham Jr. Runs 4.257/169.34, Now #21; Best prior run: 4.270/169.47, Was #21
Montecalvo's car stood up and headed for the wall, forcing him to lift. Needham continues to improve, but he's well short of the bump time for this very quick field.
Left Lane: John Deflorian Jr. Runs 4.068/178.87, Now #4; Best prior run: 6.652/77.23, Was #24
Right Lane: Matt Bertsch Runs 4.112/175.46, Now #18; Best prior run: 4.230/146.96, Was #20
Deflorian had to pedal once, still got into the field. That bumps Gahm, puts Brad Waddle on the bump spot at 4.107. Bertsch made a good run, just not good enough.
Left Lane: Richie Stevens Jr Runs 4.057/177.23, Now #2; Best prior run: 4.093/177.11, Was #11
Right Lane: Brad Waddle Runs 4.882/106.06, Now #16; Best prior run: 4.107/175.52, Was #16
Stevens ran a career-best ET to move into the second spot on the ladder. Waddle shook, will stay on the bump.
Left Lane: Lester Cooper No Time, Now #20; Best prior run: 4.145/173.07, Was #20
Right Lane: Elijah Morton Runs 5.258/94.93, Now #9; Best prior run: 4.080/177.23, Was #9
Cooper made the burnout, then shut off and was pushed back. Morton launched, shook about 200 feet out, and lifted.
Left Lane: Brian Gahm Runs 4.114/176.86, Now #17; Best prior run: 4.108/177.14, Was #17
Right Lane: Doug Kirk Runs 5.868/82.55, Now #8; Best prior run: 4.078/178.19, Was #8
Gahm failed to improve and stays outside the field, with one more shot tomorrow. Kirk shook and lifted, already safely qualified.
Left Lane: David Schorr Runs 4.079/176.05, Now #9; Best prior run: 4.102/175.62, Was #15
Right Lane: John Pluchino Runs 6.147/76.94, Now #6; Best prior run: 4.073/177.49, Was #6
Schorr improved enough to move well away from the bump spot. Pluchino shook and lifted.
Left Lane: Pete Berner Runs 4.085/176.72, Now #11; Best prior run: 4.090/176.42, Was #12
Right Lane: Trevor Eman Runs 4.529/138.56, Now #14; Best prior run: 4.097/177.18, Was #14
Berner improved slightly despite an obvious hesitation about 200 feet out. Eman was trying to keep pace until his car started trailing smoke past half track.
Left Lane: Dean Goforth Runs 11.153/45.41, Now #7; Best prior run: 4.074/177.09, Was #7
Right Lane: Larry O'Brien Runs 4.091/176.26, Now #4; Best prior run: 4.067/176.97, Was #4
Not sure what happened to Goforth, he just sat there when the tree went green, then idled down the track. O'Brien made another good run, but failed to improve.
Left Lane: Richard Penland Runs 4.055/178.12, Now #1; Best prior run: 4.093/176.07, Was #13
Right Lane: Cary Goforth Runs 4.058/177.23, Now #4; Best prior run: 4.058/177.74, Was #3
Side-by-side 4.05 ETs, but Penland's was the quicker of the two and he's now #1. Hoerner and Stevens stepped back one spot, with Goforth fourth, each of the four a thousandth quicker (or slower) than the next.
Left Lane: Scott Hintz Runs 5.241/95.38, Now #19; Best prior run: 4.127/174.89, Was #19
Right Lane: Todd Hoerner Runs 4.040/178.95, Now #1; Best prior run: 4.056/178.21, Was #2
Last pair, and Hoerner saved the best for last. Hintz shook and slowed, but Hoerner streaked down the middle of the groove and to the top of the list.
