NORWALK, Ohio - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Pro Extreme at the American Drag Racing League, ADRL Summit Racing Equipment Ohio Drags VI presented by Mickey Thompson listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:
Left Lane: Jason Scruggs Runs 4.065/154.21, Now #1
Right Lane: Dan Millen No Time, Now #2
2:21 p.m. Millen's car went silent at the green. Scruggs had a strong launch, then he pedaled about four times to get to the stripe.
Left Lane: Chris Russo Runs 3.868/200.68, Now #1
Right Lane: Bubba Stanton Runs 4.633/109.22, Now #3
Russo made a very nice run, no visible problems. Stanton's car was off-pace from the start.
Left Lane: Von Smith Runs 3.713/205.69, Now #1
Right Lane: Duane Rister Runs 5.284/104.86, Now #5
Smith laid down a very strong first pass. Rister had the same problems as many this first time around, a strong 60-foot launch followed by tire shake.
Left Lane: Jay Diedrich Runs 5.859/105.65, Now #7
Right Lane: Mick Snyder Runs 3.627/208.78, Now #1
Diedrich's car made a move out toward the wall and he had to lift. Snyder did just about everything right and he's now #1.
Left Lane: Clint Thompson Runs 3.803/202.27, Now #3
Right Lane: Todd Martin Runs 6.682/66.62, Now #9
Good run for Thompson and you can figure out what happened to Martin by looking at the numbers.
Left Lane: Art McMahan Runs 5.012/101.41, Now #8
Right Lane: Quain Stott Runs 3.757/203.12, Now #3
McMahan was flirting with the wall early in the run and lifted. Stott made a clean run. So far, all the "good" runs have had conservative 60-foot times, while those with aggressive launches have had problems with tire shake.
Left Lane: Tommy D'Aprile Runs 8.606/47.26, Now #13
Right Lane: Tim Tindle Runs 3.662/208.39, Now #2
D'Aprile shook immediately. Tindle made a strong, straight run with no visible shake.
Left Lane: Terry Leggett Runs 6.143/74.53, Now #13
Right Lane: Alex Hossler Runs 3.689/204.51, Now #3
Leggett had the front wheels in the air and the rear tires shaking, his car headed for the wall, so he lifted. Hossler had no visible problems (obviously).
Left Lane: John Stanley Runs 8.268/52.45, Now #16
Right Lane: Brandon Pesz Runs 3.603/209.69, Now #1
Stanley shook hard and lifted. Meanwhile, Pesz made a nice run, with a career-best ET, eclipsing the track record.
Left Lane: Neal Wantye Runs 3.839/200.80, Now #9
Right Lane: Frankie Taylor Runs 3.634/209.07, Now #3
The first couple pairs of cars made it look like the left lane was the "good" lane and the right lane was troublesome, then things flip-flopped and the right lane became the good lane. Taylor is the current ET record holder and he's in the good lane...no record, not even #1, but both cars went down the track with no visible problems, the first pair so far to give us a side-by-side show.
