NORWALK, Ohio --
The Division 9 season will kick off this year at one of the most popular tracks in the division at Piedmont Dragway in Greensboro, N.C. the weekend of March 23-25. The weekend will get underway on Friday with parking, tech and a test and tune, with Saturday having two qualifying runs followed by a track hosted race. Sunday will feature the Pro-Am final eliminations. With Gilmer Hinshaw and Ron Senecal now having full control of the track and a new track manager in Kevin Shipmon, the staff at Piedmont Dragway are looking forward to 2012 and have a lot of exciting things planed for the racers and fans.
Stop number two on the tour will be at Coastal Plains just outside of Jacksonville, N.C. which returns to the schedule after a brief hiatus. The race will be contested on April 6-7 with Friday being a day for parking, tech and a possible combo race. Saturday will feature two qualifying runs with final eliminations to follow.
Next the IHRA Summit Pro-Am tour heads to Rockingham, N.C. for the third race of the season at Rockingham Dragway April 27-29. Friday will include parking, tech and a test and tune, while Saturday will feature two rounds of qualifying followed by a track hosted bracket race. This will be an eighth-mile event with Stock and Super Stock having the option of setting eighth or quarter-mile records. Final eliminations will be contested on Sunday.
The fourth stop on the Raiders Summit Pro-Am tour will head to Mooresville Dragway located about 30 miles north of Charlotte, N.C. This race will be on June 1-2 and will be a Friday park, tech and test and tune with a possible gamblers race. Saturday will consist of two qualifying runs with eliminations to follow. Track operator Tony Brown and staff are already planning plenty of additional activities for the racers.
>From there we move to Dunn-Benson Dragstrip on June 22-24 in Benson, N.C. This will be the fifth stop on the Pro-Am tour and it will be a Friday park, tech and test and tune with a possible gamblers race. Saturday will include two rounds of qualifying followed by a track hosted bracket race. Sunday will be the Pro-Am finals. Roger and Brian Williams continue to make improvements to an already stellar track and look forward to once again hosting this event.
The sixth and final stop in Division 9 will take us just outside of Winston Salem, N.C. to Farmington Dragway the weekend of August 10-12. Not only will this be the final race in the division but it will also act as the Summit Tournament of Champions qualifying race for the division. With Everett and Holly Justice now owning and operating the famous eighth-mile track, they are making lots of improvements and have a lot more in the works. With this being the final race of the division and a TOC qualifier, it is sure to be a hard-fought battle.
