GLENDORA, Calif. -- The National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) announced, today, its television coverage for the 2003 NHRA Summit Sport Compact Drag Racing Series. In 2003, ESPN2 will be the exclusive home to the 10 NHRA Summit Sport Compact Drag Racing Series national event racing shows and the new 13-episode "NHRA-XtremeFest" series.
"Simply put, NHRA Summit Sport Compact Drag Racing Series' television package is unmatched by any other sport compact series in the country," said Gary Darcy, vice president of marketing at NHRA. "The television has been split up to allow ample coverage of both the competitive racing side and the lifestyle elements giving us a competitive advantage for sponsors looking not only for the on-site crowd, but the television viewer at home."
All 10 of the national events of the NHRA Summit Sport Compact Drag Racing Series will be featured in half-hour programs currently scheduled to air in prime-time, weekend slots on a taped-delay basis on the worldwide leader in sports programming, ESPN2. The telecasts will undergo a considerable makeover, having a completely different look and feel from last year's shows.
In addition, NHRA announced a new 13-episode program, "NHRA-XtremeFest," devoted exclusively to the NHRA Style Fest, NHRA Sound Challenge and the NHRA Extreme Tuner Car Show to be staged at the 10 NHRA Summit Sport Compact Drag Racing events in 2003. Besides coverage from the 10 NHRA Summit Sport Compact Drag Racing events, the "NHRA-XtremeFest" series will include shows from each of the two NHRA Extreme Rush exhibitions, to take place at two NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series national events. The final episode of "NHRA-XtremeFest" will originate from the NHRA Summit Sport Compact Drag Racing Series Awards Banquet in Pomona, Calif. The 10-race, $1.4 million NHRA Summit Sport Compact Drag Racing Series will once again feature exciting competition at many of the nation's premier drag racing facilities with each race being showcased on ESPN2.
