Markwart, Schindler, Carnero, Deatherage, Scott, and Barbera Win Orlando

ORLANDO, Fla. -- Corky Markwart, Kenny Schindler, Jorge Carnero, Steve Deatherage, David Scott, and James Barbera took home the Wallys from the at the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, Division 2, Southern Sportsman Open.

Corky Markwart won Top Sportsman at the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, Division 2, Southern Sportsman Open. He qualified fifth in his Chevy Caviler and defeated number 15 qualifier Billy in Vaughn in the final. In Super Stock, Kenny Schindler put his 1971 Chevy Corvette in the winners circle, defeating John Douglas, Jack Huff, Andy Fogle and Anthony Cretella before beating Ronnie Courtney, who broke out, in the final. Jorge Carnero won Stock in his Aspen, defeating Richard Mace in the final. In the Super Comp final, Steve Deatherage defeated Wayne Wall in one of the closest races of the weekend. They left the line together with identical reaction times of 0.416 seconds and then Deatherage ran dead-on, 8.900 seconds at 166.72 mph for the win to Wayne Walls' 8.902 seconds at 151.92 mph. David Scott in his Nova won Super Gas, defeating John Dancu in the final. In a double break-out affair James Barbera in his Nova won Super Street over Michael Ruff in his Camaro.

Super Gas -- David Scott, Nova, 9.911, 125.71  def. John Dancu, Grand Prix,

Super Street -- James Barbera, Nova, 10.883, 134.18  def. Michael Ruff,
