The engine let go at about 900 feet, flames visible from underneath the car. Left Lane: Jack Wyatt Runs 4.969/271.30, Now #16; Best prior run: 8.649/98.13, Was #21 Right Lane: Bob Bode Runs 4.874/303.91, Now #11; Best prior run: 5.181/255.10, Was #18 Career best elapsed times for both drivers! Wyatt was off the throttle at the finish, smoke trailing from the header pipes. Left Lane: Gary Scelzi Runs 5.515/192.96, Now #20; Best prior run: 5.246/184.72, Was #20 Right Lane: Keith Jackson Runs 5.022/300.46, Now #18; Best prior run: 5.059/245.72, Was #19 Scelzi got loose at half track, the rear of the car fishtailing as he was mixing up the cylinders. Jackson runs another career best elapsed time, but it isn't quick enough to make the field. Left Lane: Phil Burkart Runs 5.208/283.91, Now #19; Best prior run: 5.026/305.84, Was #19 Right Lane: Dale Creasy Jr. Runs 6.618/0.00, Now #15; Best prior run: 4.957/311.27, Was #15 Creasy was up in smoke at 60 feet. Burkart was wiggling around on the top half of the track and he blew the burst panel in the lights. Left Lane: Tim Wilkerson Runs 5.022/300.93, Now #17; Best prior run: 5.005/292.77, Was #17 Right Lane: John Force Runs 4.937/310.20, Now #13; Best prior run: 4.919/312.93, Was #13 No apparent problems for either driver, other than Force mixing up the cylinders at the finish line. This is Wilkerson's first DNQ of the season. Left Lane: Gary Densham Runs 4.796/324.51, Now #2; Best prior run: 4.919/310.55, Was #14 Right Lane: Bob Gilbertson Runs 4.920/308.43, Now #13; Best prior run: 4.895/307.44, Was #12 Densham makes a huge move up the ladder with this pass, and Gilbertson replaces Force in the 13th qualifying position. Capps has a trouble-free pass this time around. Pedregon's pass was very close to the same as his last pass, and consistency is something these guys want. Frank's engine went silent at about 1000 feet. Left Lane: Tommy Johnson Jr. Runs 4.817/314.24, Now #5; Best prior run: 4.837/316.82, Was #6 Right Lane: Del Worsham Runs 4.868/282.19, Now #4; Best prior run: 4.811/318.24, Was #4 A good looking side-by-side drag race here, no problems for either driver. Left Lane: Johnny Gray Runs 4.954/248.93, Now #6; Best prior run: 4.824/321.12, Was #6 Right Lane: Whit Bazemore Runs 4.794/324.44, Now #1; Best prior run: 4.788/323.43, Was #1 Gray started out on a tear, then the car moved toward the retaining wall just past half track. He almost hit the wall at 1000 feet and he had to lift.
