Funny Car Qualifying Notes, Session #2

BRAINERD, Minn. - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Funny Car at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, 32nd annual Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Dale Creasy Jr. Runs 4.279/286.32, Now #9; Best prior run: 6.785/102.28, Was #17
Right Lane: Tony Pedregon Runs 4.496/209.65, Now #10; Best prior run: 7.227/84.01, Was #18

6:01 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 79 degrees, relative humidity 43 percent, barometer 28.82 inches, adjusted altitude 3,187 feet, track temperature 107 degrees.

Chad Head is on the bump spot at 5.026.

A number of the top teams had problems in the first session and will be coming up early in this second session.

Both cars got off the line cleanly, but Creasy dropped a cylinder almost immediately and Pedregon's car started trailing smoke, then then nosed over around half track.

The equipment is rolling and the report is "Oil."

6:19 p.m. Let's not do that again...

Cruz Pedregon is on the bump spot at 4.626 as they stage.

That changed a few seconds after the green came on. Both drivers made nice runs, Wilkerson with the better run of the two and, for now, he's #1.

Blake Alexander's incremental times: 60ft-0.936 sec., 330ft-2.376, 660ft-3.368/259.21 mph.
Tim Wilkerson's incremental times: 60ft-0.896 sec., 330ft-2.304, 660ft-3.272/266.16 mph.

Right Lane: Alexis DeJoria Runs 4.145/303.78, Now #7; Best prior run: 6.013/113.46, Was #18

Those runs put Tony Pedregon back on the bump spot at 4.496.

Dejoria bumped into the field in the #7 spot with a nice-looking run.

Alexis DeJoria's incremental times: 60ft-0.898 sec., 330ft-2.332, 660ft-3.338/256.36 mph.

Now Dale Creasy Jr. is on the bump spot at 4.279.

Left Lane: Bob Tasca III Runs 4.098/311.41, Now #2; Best prior run: 4.239/267.75, Was #11
Right Lane: Bob Bode Runs 6.338/106.31, Now #18; Best prior run: 5.535/129.10, Was #18

Bode lost traction about 200 feet out. Tasca kept the Goodyears hooked up all the way through and moved up to the #2 spot. No change in the bump spot, still Creasy's run.

Bob Tasca III's incremental times: 60ft-0.902 sec., 330ft-2.332, 660ft-3.311/265.01 mph.

Left Lane: Ron Capps Runs 4.096/308.99, Now #2; Best prior run: 4.197/252.19, Was #11
Right Lane: Chad Head Runs 4.134/288.83, Now #9; Best prior run: 5.026/153.39, Was #17

These two were side-by-side to about half track, then Head started falling back. Capps went all the way up to #2, Head bumped in at #9, and Blake Alexander is now on the bump spot at 4.177.

Ron Capps' incremental times: 60ft-0.883 sec., 330ft-2.311, 660ft-3.302/261.22 mph.
Chad Head's incremental times: 60ft-0.885 sec., 330ft-2.321, 660ft-3.321/257.28 mph.

Left Lane: Del Worsham Runs 4.128/301.27, Now #8; Best prior run: 4.148/303.98, Was #11
Right Lane: Robert Hight Runs 4.054/312.64, Now #1; Best prior run: 4.743/172.39, Was #17

Two more good runs, Hight bumping at the #1 spot. When he started pulling away on the top end, it looked like Worsham was having trouble, but his run was good enough to move him up to eighth.

Del Worsham's incremental times: 60ft-0.910 sec., 330ft-2.356, 660ft-3.333/264.29 mph.
Robert Hight's incremental times: 60ft-0.896 sec., 330ft-2.303, 660ft-3.275/266.48 mph.

Now Alexis DeJoria is on the bump spot at 4.145.

Left Lane: Johnny Gray Runs 4.074/312.06, Now #3; Best prior run: 4.130/304.12, Was #10
Right Lane: Cruz Pedregon Runs 9.278/83.35, Now #17; Best prior run: 4.626/180.36, Was #17

Pedregon is the last car in the lanes with a chance to bump into the field. The rest are already there and not on the bump spot.

Pedregon lost traction about 200 feet out and that ended the bumping for today. Gray made a nice run, moving all the way up to the third spot.

Johnny Gray's incremental times: 60ft-0.897 sec., 330ft-2.314, 660ft-3.286/264.39 mph.

Left Lane: Matt Hagan Runs 4.044/315.34, Now #1; Best prior run: 4.122/306.26, Was #7
Right Lane: John Force Runs 4.073/316.45, Now #4; Best prior run: 4.129/295.01, Was #10

Hight didn't stay #1 for long, Hagan took it away before the top-end interviewer could get to Hight. Force trailed badly off the starting line, but was really narrowing the gap on the top end, setting top speed of the meet so far.

Matt Hagan's incremental times: 60ft-0.890 sec., 330ft-2.310, 660ft-3.270/269.78 mph.
John Force's incremental times: 60ft-0.912 sec., 330ft-2.337, 660ft-3.300/268.92 mph.

Left Lane: Jack Beckman Runs 5.878/114.65, Now #9; Best prior run: 4.114/306.53, Was #8
Right Lane: Courtney Force Runs 4.094/307.65, Now #6; Best prior run: 4.125/309.63, Was #9

Last pair.

Beckman lost traction about 200 feet out. Force was on a strong run, but was hazing the tires on the top end.

Courtney Force's incremental times: 60ft-0.895 sec., 330ft-2.335, 660ft-3.306/267.75 mph.
