Top Fuel Round 1 Eliminations

BRISTOL, Tenn. - Results of round 1 eliminations in Top Fuel at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, 13th annual Ford NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals presented by Tri-Cities Area Ford Dealers:

Weather conditions: air temperature 78 degrees, relative humidity 58 percent, barometer 28.54 inches, adjusted altitude 3,615 feet, track temperature 110 degrees.

Eleven different drivers earned at least one bonus point during qualifying. Langdon is 6 - 1 against Vandergriff in prior events. A couple good lights and with Langdon getting the slight advantage and never trailed for the win. Shawn Langdon's MOV: 0.0816 seconds (approximately 38 feet). Langdon with his quickest pass of the weekend for the win.

Doug Kalitta has won this race three times. alBalooshi is 2 - 1 against Kalitta in prior events. Kalitta with the starting line advantage and then runs his quickest pass of the weekend for the win. Doug Kalitta's MOV: 0.0165 seconds (approximately 8 feet). alBalooshi with his quickest pass of the weekend in a losing effort.

Chris Karamesines qualified for the first NHRA race in Bristol in 1965. This is the first time Karamesines and Millican have faced each other in eliminations. Millican with the starting line advantage and was straight down the groove for the win. Millican will have lane choice over Kalitta in the next round by 0.004 seconds. Karamesines with his quickest pass of the weekend, but then has a lot of engine smoke in the lights as the engine let go. the word from the top end is there is oil on the track, that is his second oil down of the year, so it will cost him 10 points.

This is Spencer Massey's 7th number one spot and he is looking for his first win from the top spot. This is the first time Herbert and Massey have faced each other in eliminations. Herbert did the burnout and then as he was backing up the chute came out, so Massey will get the freebie. Massey was up in smoke early and clicked it off.

This is the first time Pruett and Torrence have faced each other in eliminations. torrence is out of the gate first and never trailed for the win. Pruett started to haze the tires around half track and pedaled it, but couldn't get to hook up and she clicked it off. Pruett's side panel started to blow off, but did stay on. Torrence will give up lane choice to Langdon in the next round.

Lucas is 12 - 11 against Grubnic in prior events. They left together with Grubnic getting the slight advantage until just before half track and then it started dropping cylinders...Lucas was able to chase him around 700 feet and take the win by 0.0158 seconds (approximately 7 feet).

Tony Schumacher has won this race five times. He and Antron have faced each other 37 times but this will be only the second time they have squared off in the first round and Antron won that race. Schumacher is out of the gate first and never trailed as Brown was up in smoke by 300 feet. Schumacher will have lane choice over Lucas in the next round.

This is the first time Todd and Force have faced each other in eliminations. Todd with starting line advantage, but Force was able to chase him down around 600 feet to take the win. Force then started to get out of the groove and over by the centerline, but she keeps it in her lane and takes the win by 0.0695 seconds (approximately 30 feet). Force will have lane choice over Massey in the next round. The word from the top end is there is oil in Todd's lane so apparent the engine went away.
