Top Alcohol Funny Car Qualifying Notes, Final Session
By Jim Samuel

NORWALK, Ohio - Notes from final, round 3 qualifying in Top Alcohol Funny Car at the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, North Central Division, Mickey Mart Rewards Cavalcade of Stars presented by Budweiser listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Paul Noakes Runs 5.654/252.43, Now #2; Best prior run: 7.102/107.39, Was #10
Right Lane: Rob Pfeister Runs 6.170/222.47, Now #10; Best prior run: 6.494/200.23, Was #9

8:09 p.m. - Noakes' car blew an engine in the first session last night. The explosion damaged the body and chassis. He and his crew have worked around the clock since then getting the car ready for this qualifying session. They got the car done in time, came to the staging lanes and put a solid run on the boards. Noakes not only made the field, he put himself into the number two spot in the order, bumping Cassie Simonton out of the field. Ray Drew is on the bump spot at 5.879.

Left Lane: Cassie Simonton Runs 5.661/254.04, Now #4; Best prior run: 5.882/251.81, Was #9
Right Lane: Ray Drew Runs 5.667/257.09, Now #6; Best prior run: 5.879/253.42, Was #8

Simonton just got bumped from the field and Drew was on the bump spot when they pulled up to stage. Both drivers got the runs they needed. Simonton made it to the number four spot in the order and Drew moved up to number six. That bumped Harvanek out of the field and put Chris Foster on the bump spot at 5.762.

Left Lane: Brian Harvanek Runs 10.045/86.72, Now #9; Best prior run: 5.766/221.60, Was #9
Right Lane: Chris Foster Runs 5.644/256.55, Now #2; Best prior run: 5.762/228.11, Was #8

Harvanek had just been bumped and Foster was on the bump spot when these two pulled up to the starting line. Harvanek's car stumbled coming out of the gate and shook the tires. He pedaled it but by then it was too late and Harvanek's hopes of making the field were gone. Foster pushed himself into the number two spot in the order. There are no non-qualified drivers left to run so the field is set. From here on, they are running for position only.

Left Lane: Andy Bohl Runs 5.676/256.06, Now #4; Best prior run: 5.660/259.21, Was #4
Right Lane: John Bojec Runs 24.676/32.68, Now #8; Best prior run: 5.757/251.11, Was #8

Bojec shook the rear tires coming off the starting line and clicked it off right away. He'll stay in the number eight spot in the order. Bohl had a good run down the quarter mile but stayed where he was in the qualifying order.

Right Lane: Mickey Ferro Runs 5.691/252.28, Now #6; Best prior run: 5.663/252.61, Was #6
