TOPEKA, Kan. - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Funny Car at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, 25th annual NHRA Kansas Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:
Left Lane: Dale Creasy Jr. Runs 11.509/80.19, Now #2
Right Lane: Chad Head Runs 4.185/303.98, Now #1

Weather conditions: air temperature 83 degrees, relative humidity 62 percent, barometer 28.70 inches, adjusted altitude 3,717 feet, track temperature 112 degrees.

Creasy Jr. with severe tire shake right at the hit and clicked it off. Head launched hard and was straight down the groove with a great looking pass. Chad Head's incremental times: 60ft-0.930 sec., 330ft-2.373, 660ft-3.379/255.77 mph.

Left Lane: Jeff Arend Runs 4.158/302.82, Now #1
Right Lane: Tony Pedregon No Time, Now #4

Pedregon with problems on the burnout and drove on off the top end. Arend with a great pass to go to the number one spot. Jeff Arend's incremental times: 60ft-0.927 sec., 330ft-2.357, 660ft-3.352/257.48 mph.

Left Lane: John Force Runs 8.950/69.83, Now #4
Right Lane: Bob Tasca III Runs 4.190/303.50, Now #3

Force with a lot shake right at the hit and clicked it off. Tasca with a good clean pass right down Broadway. Bob Tasca III's incremental times: 60ft-0.929 sec., 330ft-2.381, 660ft-3.383/257.19 mph.

Left Lane: Alexis DeJoria Runs 6.164/109.81, Now #5
Right Lane: Del Worsham Runs 4.258/276.69, Now #4

DeJoria started to shake around 330 feet and clicked it off. Worsham was on a good pass until right in the light when the car made a big move toward the centerline.

Left Lane: Robert Hight Runs 4.090/298.01, Now #1
Right Lane: Jack Beckman Runs 4.227/288.21, Now #5

Beckman started to drop cylinders around half track and started to push the car toward the centerline. Hight launched hard and keeps it hooked up to go to the number one spot. Robert Hight's incremental times: 60ft-0.897 sec., 330ft-2.307, 660ft-3.284/263.92 mph.

Left Lane: Courtney Force Runs 4.133/307.16, Now #2
Right Lane: Tim Wilkerson Runs 4.470/223.06, Now #8

Wilkerson was on a good pass until in the lights when it banged and the cylinders went wet. Force with a real nice pass, straight down the groove. she goes to the number two spot. Courtney Force's incremental times: 60ft-0.917 sec., 330ft-2.349, 660ft-3.338/260.56 mph.

Left Lane: Ron Capps Runs 4.147/304.32, Now #3
Right Lane: Johnny Gray Runs 4.732/173.67, Now #10

Gray started to haze the tires just past half track and clicked it off. Capps with a good looking pass to go to the number three spot. Ron Capps' incremental times: 60ft-0.899 sec., 330ft-2.337, 660ft-3.340/256.60 mph.

Left Lane: Matt Hagan Runs 4.195/301.94, Now #8
Right Lane: Cruz Pedregon Runs 4.144/298.34, Now #3

This was a great side-by-side drag race to wrap up round one. Pedregon goes to the number three spot. Cruz Pedregon's incremental times: 60ft-0.894 sec., 330ft-2.321, 660ft-3.326/253.75 mph. Hagan with a little wiggle on the top end, but goes to the number eight spot. Matt Hagan's incremental times: 60ft-0.913 sec., 330ft-2.384, 660ft-3.389/258.07 mph.
