Von Smith
Former NHRA Pro Mod world champion Von Smith has a lot of momentum following his NHRA Pro Mod Drag Racing Series season-opening victory in Gainesville, Fla., and now he will try to keep the positive mojo moving forward as he tries for another victory at the Dollar General NHRA Four-Wide Nationals Fueled by Full Throttle, April 19-21 at zMAX Dragway. The category will compete in the traditional two-lane format during the event.

"Winning the first race in the season was definitely a pleasant surprise after being off for two years," Smith said. "We're off to a great start. Now, we've just got to keep the team on the same page and win some more."

Smith's hometown of Oak Ridge, Tenn. is not too far from zMAX Dragway and he anticipates lots of family and friends to turnout for the race this weekend. The Dollar General NHRA Four-Wide Nationals is the second stop in the 10-event NHRA Pro Mod Drag Racing Series.

"The zMAX Dragway is a fantastic facility," Smith said. "There is definitely some added pressure to perform well when you have lots of friends and family out there rooting for you."

Smith is no stranger to the winner's circle. In 2010, Smith was crowned the inaugural NHRA Pro Mod Series world champion with wins in St. Louis, Englishtown and Bristol. Smith said that the recent Gatornationals win proves that his team still has what it takes to get the job done.

"Gainesville was a morale booster for me and my guys," he said. "We're looking forward to this season and I thank God because none of this would be possible. We're ready and excited for the next race in Charlotte."

Other top competitors in the event will be 2012 defending champ Troy Coughlin, Rickie Smith, Mike Castellana, the No. 1 qualifier in Gainesville; Troy Coughlin; Jay Payne and Danny Rowe.

Featuring the world's fastest and most unique doorslammer cars with an extremely diverse collection of vehicles, including '63 Corvettes, '68 Camaros, '67 Mustangs and '68 Firebirds as well as late-model cars, the NHRA Pro Mod Drag Racing Series offers something for every kind of hot-rodding enthusiast.
