Top Fuel Round 1 Eliminations

GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Results of round 1 eliminations in Top Fuel at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, 44th annual Amalie Oil NHRA Gatornationals:

Torrence and Lucas have each won 4 times against the other in prior events. Lucas with a near perfect light, but Torrence had the difference made up by 100 feet and then runs low E.T. of the event for the win. Steve Torrence's MOV: 0.0281 seconds (approximately 13 feet). Lucas was just a tick off his qualifying time on a good looking pass in the losing effort. Steve Torrence's incremental times: 60ft-0.838 sec., 330ft-2.140, 660ft-3.027/285.23 mph.

This is Clay Millican's best starting spot since the first Las Vegas race in 2012..Clay has not done well against the other women he has faced in his career and he is just 2 - 7 against them. Millican with the starting line advantage and never trailed with his quickest pass of the weekend for the win. Clay Millican's incremental times: 60ft-0.848 sec., 330ft-2.152, 660ft-3.053/280.43 mph. Force was just a tick off her qualifying time in the losing effort.

Frigo with the starting line advantage, but Langdon had the difference made up by the time they went by the Christmas tree. Langdon with his quickest pass of the weekend for the win. Shawn Langdon's incremental times: 60ft-0.844 sec., 330ft-2.144, 660ft-3.041/281.71 mph. Frigo with a bang and a pop around 800 feet and the chutes were automatically deployed.

Larry Dixon has won this race four times. In his previous seventeen years here his lowest starting spot was #8. Brown with the starting line advantage and runs his quickest pass of the weekend for the win. Antron Brown's incremental times: 60ft-0.844 sec., 330ft-2.132, 660ft-3.031/282.01 mph. Dixon with his quickest pass of the weekend in a losing effort. Brown will give up lane choice to Torrence in the next round

Doug Kalitta qualified number 1 at back-to-back races for the first time since 2004..He has failed to win the race in his last 14 times as the number one qualifier..He is 27 -5 in round one from the number one spot.Doug has won this race twice and Connie Kalitta won it in 1994 when he beat his son, Scott, in the final round. Leah Pruett is making her third straight start to begin her Top Fuel career...In the last 30 years the number 16 qualifier in Top Fuel has only won four times in the opening round at Gainesville. Pruett with the starting line advantage, but is up in smoke by 250 feet and pedals it but is back up in smoke. Kalitta with another great pass, just a tick off his qualifying time.

Tony Schumacher has won this race four times. The last time he started from the #5 spot was in 2008 and he went on to win the race. Schumacher with a great light, but is up in smoke as soon as he hit the throttle. alBalooshi engine was mixing up cylinders on the top end and slowed, but still gets the win. alBalooshi will give up lane choice to Millican in the next round.

Massey is 3 - 2 against Grubnic in prior events. They just swapped lanes...Massey with the starting line advantage and never trailed with Massey running his quickest and fastest pass of the weekend for the win. Spencer Massey's incremental times: 60ft-0.853 sec., 330ft-2.156, 660ft-3.049/283.61 mph. Grubnic started to drop cylinders and then was up in smoke just past half track. Massey will have lane choice over Langdon by 0.001 second in the next round.

Brandon Bernstein won this race in 2003 and his father, Kenny, won it on both TF & FC. Bernstein is 13 - 2 against Vandergriff in prior events. Bernstein is out of the gate first and never trailed as Vandergriff started to smoke the tires just past 330 feet. Bernstein with his quickest pass of the weekend for the win. He will give up lane choice to Kalitta in the next round.
