By David Gerard

POMONA, Calif. - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Funny Car at the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series, 48th annual Automobile Club of Southern California NHRA Finals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Paul Lee Runs 4.082/308.28, Now #4; Best prior run: 10.369/41.92, Was #22
Right Lane: Tony Pedregon Runs 6.089/100.32, Now #11; Best prior run: 9.086/73.59, Was #21

2:55 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 64 degrees, relative humidity 41 percent, barometer 28.74 inches, adjusted altitude 2,110 feet, track temperature 81 degrees.

Bob Bode is on the bump spot at 7.451. After a great Top Fuel session, we should have a fast session.

Pedregon's engine isn't happy off the line and quickly spins the tires.

Lee runs a career best ET in Densham's funny car to move into the current top four on a clean and straight pass.

Paul Lee's incremental times: 60ft-0.910 sec., 330ft-2.325, 660ft-3.290/264.39 mph.

Left Lane: Matt Hagan Runs 4.100/308.50, Now #6; Best prior run: 8.279/79.89, Was #20
Right Lane: Tommy Johnson Jr. Runs 4.374/285.05, Now #9; Best prior run: 9.073/79.23, Was #22

Terry Haddock is on the bump spot at 7.139.

Hagan makes a full pass this time and keeps the candles lit all the way to the finish line. Its good enough for the current top half of the field.

Johnson got out a ways, pumped the throttle and ran it on down the track. There is a lot of smoke from the car in the lights, but no oil on the track.

Matt Hagan's incremental times: 60ft-0.920 sec., 330ft-2.335, 660ft-3.302/264.44 mph.
Tommy Johnson Jr.'s incremental times: 60ft-0.926 sec., 330ft-2.512, 660ft-3.537/252.76 mph.

Left Lane: Jim Head Runs 4.056/306.40, Now #2; Best prior run: 8.087/71.80, Was #19
Right Lane: Bob Tasca III Runs 4.157/304.74, Now #10; Best prior run: 8.996/72.79, Was #22

Todd Lesenko is on the bump spot at 5.376.

Head is second off the line, but runs a career best ET to move all the way to the number two position from number 19. Nice!

Tasca is dropping cylinder down track and is still in the field for now.

Jim Head's incremental times: 60ft-0.888 sec., 330ft-2.297, 660ft-3.268/265.33 mph.
Bob Tasca III's incremental times: 60ft-0.914 sec., 330ft-2.358, 660ft-3.356/259.71 mph.

Left Lane: Alexis DeJoria Runs 8.889/71.65, Now #21; Best prior run: 7.976/76.95, Was #20
Right Lane: John Force Runs 4.212/309.06, Now #11; Best prior run: 8.218/73.17, Was #22

Cruz Pedregon is on the bump spot at 4.576.

Force leaves hard, quickly pumps the pedal about 100' out, and runs clean to the finish line.

DeJoria spins the tires early and clicks it off.

John Force's incremental times: 60ft-0.900 sec., 330ft-2.392, 660ft-3.416/257.68 mph.

Left Lane: Bob Bode Runs 7.924/74.90, Now #20; Best prior run: 7.451/80.82, Was #19
Right Lane: Grant Downing Runs 4.108/308.35, Now #8; Best prior run: 8.158/79.71, Was #22

Tommy Johnson Jr. is on the bump spot at 4.374.

Huge run for Downing with a new career best speed and ET by a bunch to move into the current top half of the field.

Bode strikes the tires early and clicks it off.

Grant Downing's incremental times: 60ft-0.906 sec., 330ft-2.333, 660ft-3.314/262.39 mph.

Left Lane: Tim Wilkerson Runs 4.128/302.35, Now #11; Best prior run: 7.230/83.75, Was #19
Right Lane: Ron Capps Runs 4.700/183.77, Now #16; Best prior run: 7.675/71.87, Was #21

Capps' need for the little points is thwarted again, as he pedals early and then has to give it up.

Wilkerson gets a full pass this time, but it's expensive, as there is a bunch of smoke from the engine in the lights.

Tim Wilkerson's incremental times: 60ft-0.899 sec., 330ft-2.325, 660ft-3.320/257.78 mph.
Ron Capps' incremental times: 60ft-0.895 sec., 330ft-2.408, 660ft-3.506/211.39 mph.

Left Lane: Josh Crawford Runs 4.840/180.77, Now #17; Best prior run: 5.013/154.79, Was #17
Right Lane: Terry Haddock Runs 7.674/89.46, Now #20; Best prior run: 7.139/93.40, Was #20

Bob Tasca III is on the bump spot at 4.157.

Two broken runs. They leave close together and Haddock is done right after that, as the tires shake and spin.

Crawford gets further down track before the engine goes silent.

Josh Crawford's incremental times: 60ft-0.950 sec., 330ft-2.480, 660ft-3.628/207.43 mph.

Left Lane: Cruz Pedregon Runs 4.059/311.85, Now #3; Best prior run: 4.576/184.47, Was #15
Right Lane: Todd Lesenko Runs 5.012/153.68, Now #18; Best prior run: 5.376/133.83, Was #18

Pedregon makes a clean and straight pass from #15 all the way up to #3 .

Lesenko strikes the tires before the 330 foot lights and slows.

Cruz Pedregon's incremental times: 60ft-0.889 sec., 330ft-2.297, 660ft-3.272/263.31 mph.

Left Lane: Jack Beckman Runs 4.025/319.75, Now #1; Best prior run: 4.117/273.00, Was #10
Right Lane: Jeff Arend Runs 4.434/202.27, Now #11; Best prior run: 4.127/309.27, Was #11

Beckman came into the round in fifth and can't go any lower then his current #10 spot. He said that yesterday's engine meltdown and body shredding was from a broken piston.

Looks like he wants the Championship big time, as he runs the sixth fastest pass with low ET to jump to the top of the ladder and likely take some of the Bonus points.

Arend stays with him until after the 330 lights and then has traction issues.

Jack Beckman's incremental times: 60ft-0.902 sec., 330ft-2.300, 660ft-3.258/270.05 mph.
Jeff Arend's incremental times: 60ft-0.889 sec., 330ft-2.309, 660ft-3.342/228.31 mph.

Left Lane: Robert Hight Runs 7.875/84.71, Now #8; Best prior run: 4.096/311.56, Was #8
Right Lane: Johnny Gray Runs 4.060/313.22, Now #5; Best prior run: 4.065/312.57, Was #6

Hight is a way first and has a better sixty foot time, but gives it up right after that.

Gray runs 0.005 quicker than yesterday to move up a spot on the ladder. Consistent!

Robert Hight's incremental times: 60ft-0.905 sec., 330ft-2.689, 660ft-5.108/086.36 mph.
Johnny Gray's incremental times: 60ft-0.910 sec., 330ft-2.314, 660ft-3.280/266.53 mph.

Left Lane: Mike Neff Runs 4.509/190.86, Now #6; Best prior run: 4.062/313.66, Was #6
Right Lane: Courtney Force Runs 4.056/315.86, Now #2; Best prior run: 4.032/315.93, Was #2

Last pair of Funny Cars for today.

No little points for Neff this time, as the Mustang goes up in smoke right after the 330 lights. He was on a strong pass, running just 0.001 in sixty feet and exactly the same at three hundred thirty feet.

Force power ahead at that point and finishes the pass without issues. She runs close to her #1 qualifier numbers from yesterday.

Mike Neff's incremental times: 60ft-0.894 sec., 330ft-2.314, 660ft-3.355/217.95 mph.
Courtney Force's incremental times: 60ft-0.893 sec., 330ft-2.314, 660ft-3.280/268.28 mph.

3:33 p.m. Jack Beckman is number one at 4.025 and Tim Wilkerson is on the bump spot at 4.128.
