Nostalgia Top Fuel Qualifying Notes, Session #1

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Nostalgia Top Fuel at the NHRA Hot Rod Heritage Racing Series, California Hot Rod Reunion XXI listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:
Left Lane: John Rasmussen Runs 6.002/241.63, Now #1

2:45 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 86 degrees, relative humidity 40 percent, barometer 29.31 inches, adjusted altitude 2,762 feet.

Left lane single to start the session.

Lots of clutch dust off the line and a clean pass to the finish line.

John Rasmussen's incremental times: 60ft-1.082 sec., 330ft-2.755, 660ft-4.017/198.70 mph, 1,000ft-5.081.


Right Lane: Rick White Runs 5.787/249.67, Now #1

A great pass from start to finish. White has a strong 1.043 sixty foot time and runs clean to the finish line.

Rick White's incremental times: 60ft-1.043 sec., 330ft-2.639, 660ft-3.865/202.85 mph, 1,000ft-4.903.

Left Lane: Dan Horan Jr. Runs 8.734/120.17, Now #4
Right Lane: Rick McGee Runs 5.945/187.16, Now #2

Horan is doing double duty this weekend. Both in his FC and Dad's TF'er. The engine isn't happy off the line and then goes BOOM right near the half track lights.

McGee was away first by a bunch and thunder down the track until right after the 1000 foot light, where he slows a bunch.

Rick McGee's incremental times: 60ft-1.022 sec., 330ft-2.582, 660ft-3.762/216.20 mph, 1,000ft-4.830.

Left Lane: Bill Dunlap Runs 6.134/200.08, Now #5
Right Lane: Jim Murphy Runs 5.792/226.01, Now #2

Dunlap gets a small advantage at the green, but Murphy quickly drives on by on a strong pass into the new number two spot.

Bill Dunlap's incremental times: 60ft-1.098 sec., 330ft-2.761, 660ft-4.027/198.35 mph, 1,000ft-5.093.
Jim Murphy's incremental times: 60ft-1.046 sec., 330ft-2.620, 660ft-3.836/204.91 mph, 1,000ft-4.865.

Left Lane: Rick Williamson Runs 5.750/261.02, Now #1
Right Lane: Brendan Murry Runs 7.840/112.38, Now #7

Murry is driving his new Hemi dragster and the car struggles off the line and he has to click it early.

Williamson is taking no prisoners and flies down the track with a huge ET and MPH to reset the top spot on the ladder. Sweet!

Rick Williamson's incremental times: 60ft-1.038 sec., 330ft-2.661, 660ft-3.879/206.20 mph, 1,000ft-4.893.

Left Lane: Paul Romine Runs 5.883/207.69, Now #4
Right Lane: Adam Sorokin Runs 14.212/79.75, Now #10

Sorokin is currently number one in points, but Williamson's pass will give him pause. He scores a strong 0.079 RT, but the little Chevy is done right after that.

Romine's engine needed a longer fuze, as his strong pass ends early with a big bang and smoke from the engine in the lights.

Paul Romine's incremental times: 60ft-1.048 sec., 330ft-2.643, 660ft-3.849/207.62 mph, 1,000ft-4.877.

Left Lane: Mendy Fry Runs 6.361/162.20, Now #9
Right Lane: Howard Haight Runs 6.029/197.94, Now #7

3:03 p.m. Time for some dusting and cleaning after the lights.

3:13 p.m. Back to racing.

Dueling engine smoke! Haight gets a better RT, but Fry has the power to drive on by and pull steadily ahead until right near the 1000 foot lights. Her engine starts to lay down some smoke first, but Haight's engine makes like Mosquito Abatement.

3:15 p.m. Back to cleaning the track.

Mendy Fry's incremental times: 60ft-1.036 sec., 330ft-2.685, 660ft-3.937/200.53 mph, 1,000ft-5.099.
Howard Haight's incremental times: 60ft-1.108 sec., 330ft-2.735, 660ft-3.954/206.70 mph, 1,000ft-4.989.

Left Lane: Terry Cox Runs 5.900/249.72, Now #5
Right Lane: Tony Bartone Runs 14.975/69.95, Now #14

3:38 p.m. Back to racing with the last pair in Top Fuel.

Bartone leaves first, fires, and falls back.

Cox get to near the finish line before the engine gives up. Lots of smoke, but no oil!

Terry Cox's incremental times: 60ft-1.086 sec., 330ft-2.737, 660ft-3.977/202.76 mph, 1,000ft-5.013.

Williamson stays number one with a 5.750 and there is No Bump Spot...
