BAYTOWN, Texas - Notes from final, round 3 qualifying in Competition Eliminator at the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, South Central Division, NHRA Texas Sportsman Shootout at Royal Purple Raceway listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed this round, amount over/under index this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time, speed & over/under Index, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Don Thomas Runs 7.272/182.21/-0.588, Now #6; C/ED Index: 7.86, Prior Best: 7.289/181.74/-0.571, Was #6
Right Lane: Raymond Martin Runs 7.700/170.34/-0.610, Now #4; K/AA Index: 8.31, Prior Best: 7.692/171.29/-0.618, Was #4

Two nice runs, Smiley moving into the top half of the field and Forrester showing nice consistency.

Right Lane: Pete Carbery Runs 7.094/197.33/-0.416, Now #17; B/A Index: 7.51, Prior Best: 8.914/108.82/1.404, Was #22

Both ran their best run of the weekend here, but neither will have lane choice in round 1.

Left Lane: Clint Neff Runs 7.715/151.71/-0.645, Now #1; K/A Index: 8.36, Prior Best: 7.645/170.90/-0.715, Was #1
Right Lane: Dick Maris Runs 6.976/191.73/-0.574, Now #8; C/DA Index: 7.55, Prior Best: 6.982/192.28/-0.568, Was #8

Neff ran hard to 1,000 feet, then lifted. Maris ran it out the back door, stayed eighth, improving with each run down the track.

Smilet's Corvette chattered the tires and headed for the centerline, so he lifted. Withers ran it all the way through, needs to find a few tenths more to be competitive.

Both drivers made full passes, both lost a few thousandths from yesterday.

Left Lane: Scott Benham Runs 8.277/161.17/-0.303, Now #19; B/SMA Index: 8.58, Prior Best: 8.293/161.02/-0.287, Was #19
Right Lane: Jody Holland Runs 9.058/147.36/-0.282, Now #20; L/AA Index: 9.34, Prior Best: 9.064/145.74/-0.276, Was #20

Both drivers improved slightly, both need to find a few tenths to have much of a chance in eliminations.

Left Lane: Mike Trumble Runs 7.940/171.60/-0.540, Now #11; A/SMA Index: 8.48, Prior Best: 7.963/173.14/-0.517, Was #12
Right Lane: Kevin Duet Runs 7.236/188.91/-0.184, Now #16; A/ND Index: 7.42, Prior Best: 6.990/191.43/-0.430, Was #16

Both cars went toward the wall in their lane on the launce, both brought it back without scraping the paint off. Duet lifted, Trumble stayed in the htrottle and made hsi quickest run of the event.

Left Lane: Charles Watson Runs 8.289/163.95/-0.471, Now #15; C/SM Index: 8.76, Prior Best: 8.306/163.75/-0.454, Was #15
Right Lane: Duane Robison Runs 7.319/186.41/-0.611, Now #2; C/A Index: 7.93, Prior Best: 7.293/187.83/-0.637, Was #2

Watson also made a move toward the wall and he also did not lift, making his quickest run of the event. Robison did not appear to lift early, but lost a couple of hundredths from yesterday.

Left Lane: Chase Williams Runs 7.688/176.84/-0.572, Now #9; E/A Index: 8.26, Prior Best: 7.717/176.93/-0.543, Was #10
Right Lane: Steven Kent Runs 7.730/175.46/-0.530, Now #13; E/A Index: 8.26, Prior Best: 13.308/66.29/5.048, Was #23

Kent finally got down the track and moved way up in the field, but he's still in the bottom half. Williams also improved, moved up one spot.

Right Lane: Joey Tanksley Runs 10.732/78.40/3.372, Now #6; C/D Index: 7.36, Prior Best: 6.753/197.19/-0.607, Was #6

Tanksley slowed early in the run, possibly tire shake.

Right Lane: Craig Bourgeois Runs 6.840/199.61/-0.520, Now #14; B/DA Index: 7.36, Prior Best: 6.855/198.03/-0.505, Was #15

Bourgeois made his best run of the weekend, but still won't have lane choice in round one.
