Top Alcohol Funny Car Qualifying Notes, Final Session

MOHNTON, Pa. - Notes from final, round 2 qualifying in Top Alcohol Funny Car at the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series, 28th annual Auto-Plus NHRA Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Cassie Simonton Runs 5.705/246.71, Now #8; Best prior run: 16.900/44.75, Was #17
Right Lane: Paul Gill Runs 5.890/256.65, Now #12; No Prior Run

2:59 p.m. - Weather conditions: air temperature 81 degrees, relative humidity 49 percent, barometer 29.43 inches, adjusted altitude 2,709 feet, track temperature 101 degrees.

Gill shook the tires and had to pedal it at 330 feet, but was quick enough to get to the number 12 spot in the order. Simonton's car got loose at midtrack, but she got it straightened out to finish the run and put herself into the field. Brian Harvanek is on the bump spot at 7.209, with three non-qualified drivers waiting for their second attempt.

Left Lane: Fred Tigges Runs 6.096/241.50, Now #14; Best prior run: 14.314/91.20, Was #18
Right Lane: John Headley Runs 6.697/214.01, Now #16; Best prior run: 6.621/208.17, Was #15

Tigges moved himself into the field, bumping Harvanek out of the way. Headley was not as quick as in the first session and is now on the bump spot, with three drivers waiting to put themselves into the top 16.

Left Lane: John Fiorini Runs 6.010/213.98, Now #15; Best prior run: 10.836/71.04, Was #18
Right Lane: Paul Noakes Runs 5.718/253.33, Now #9; Best prior run: 6.390/221.27, Was #15

Fiorini moved up three spots and into the field with a clean drive down the track. Noakes was quicker than he was in the first session and moved up six spots. Fred Tigges is on the bump spot at 6.096, with Harvanek and Beers waiting to make their last attempt.

Left Lane: Brian Harvanek Runs 5.644/254.90, Now #5; Best prior run: 7.209/236.75, Was #18
Right Lane: Larry Dobbs Runs 5.765/248.57, Now #12; Best prior run: 5.811/251.34, Was #12

Harvanek had a good run that moved him into the top half of the field for now. Dobbs was quicker than in the first session, but did not move up in the order. He did leave oil on the track.

Left Lane: Eric Lourie Runs 5.991/244.74, Now #15; Best prior run: 5.895/243.72, Was #15
Right Lane: Dan Pomponio Runs 5.680/254.38, Now #7; Best prior run: 5.744/252.43, Was #11

Lourie was slower than in the first session, so he will not move in the order. Pomponio moved up four spots with a clean run.

Left Lane: Marie Ferriolo Runs 6.266/182.97, Now #13; Best prior run: 5.792/247.97, Was #13

Ferriolo was not as quick as she was in the first session, so she stayed in the same place in the order.

Left Lane: Todd Veney Runs 5.649/253.61, Now #6; Best prior run: 5.661/253.71, Was #6

Veney was a little bit quicker than in the first session but not enough to move him up in the qualifying order.

Left Lane: Clint Thompson Runs 10.999/77.58, Now #3; Best prior run: 5.608/256.06, Was #3
Right Lane: Mickey Ferro Runs 5.636/256.06, Now #4; Best prior run: 5.619/255.87, Was #4

Thompson launched and his car moved toward the center line, so he clicked it off. Ferro had a clean run but did not improve his place in the order.

Left Lane: Frank Manzo Runs 5.510/261.57, Now #1; Best prior run: 5.561/260.66, Was #1
Right Lane: John Anderika Runs 5.663/249.12, Now #2; Best prior run: 5.598/253.80, Was #2

Manzo was quicker than the first session, but was already in the top spot in the order. Anderika was not as quick in the first session but he stays in the number two spot.
