Earns Driver of the Year Crown

CARTERVILLE, Ill. --

2-time Million Dollar Race winner Gary Williams enjoyed arguably his best season to date in 2010. His standout season culminates in an award of a different variety, as Williams has been crowned "Driver of the Year" by ThisIsBracketRacing.com. This accolade comes as a result of topping the yearlong BTE Power Rankings on ThisIsBracketRacing.com. The unique program, hosted by sportsman racings only internet driving school, ranks sportsman competitors based upon final round appearances regardless of class, sanction, and type of competition. The program awards drivers "Power Points" for final round finishes at any and all NHRA and IHRA national, sportsman national, divisional, and Pro-Am events in all sportsman categories; as well as any and all bracket-style events that boast a winners purse of $5,000 or more. Points are awarded in rough accordance to actual money won (For example, a win at a $10,000 bracket race earns 10 points. An NHRA national event victory earns 15 points, etc.) For detailed rules and points earning guidelines, click here: http://thisisbracketracing.com/rankings_points.cfm

Over 1300 sportsman competitors throughout North America earned BTE Power Points during the 2010 season, but none earned more than Gary Williams, who dominated the standings for much of the season and finished with a whopping 179 points. Williams eclipsed 2009 champion Dan Fletcher's season ending total by 24 points, making his final tally the largest in the programs history. Williams topped a great list of competitors to claim the title. TIBR members who finished the season ranked in the top ten included Jason Lynch (110 points), John Labbous, Jr. (105), Todd Ewing (102), Stephen McCrory (93), Luke Bogacki (88), Peter Biondo (87), Edmond Ricahardson (85), Troy Williams, Jr. (73) and Steve Furr (68).

Williams amassed his incredible 179 point total in the big dollar bracket racing arena almost exclusively. His 2010 ledger is incredible, as he appeared in seven final rounds in which the winners purse was $20,000 or more! He kicked off his 2010 campaign with a pair of $20,000 victories at the opening Super 7 Series event at Montgomery Motorsports Park back in February. Three months later he and teammate Dwayne Roberts were in a $25,000 final at the Thunder Valley Bracket Challenge, where the two had to split the money as they both advanced to the final round in the same car! In June, Williams earned a $10,000 victory at the Ultimate 64 Shootout in Cleves, OH, then took runner-up honors on the opening day of the JEGS U.S. Open in Indianapolis just two weeks later. Williams didn't cool off in the heat of summer either, claiming a victory in the American Race Cars "Race for a Dragster" event at the Great American Race in Belle Rose, LA, then earning a $10,000 triumph at the AA Auto Salvage Mega Bucks weekend in Atco, NJ a week later. He was runner-up in a $30,000-to-win event at the Million Dollar Race in Muncie, IN before scoring the Division 2 Championship with a win at the E.T. Finals in Adel, GA. That victory came in Pro Eliminator, a No Box category, as Williams showcased his versatility behind the wheel.

He added a $10,000 Tenn-Tuck Triple Crown victory in October, and dominated the 2010 Florida Winter Series for good measure. There, he was runner-up in the $10,000 opener at South Georgia Motorsports Park before earning a $25,000 windfall to close that weekend. He finished the Winter Series with another $10,000 score at Palm Beach International Raceway's annual 5-day event.

While Williams' season did not garner a great deal of national attention due to the lack of exposure for big dollar bracket racing, his season was certainly one for the ages. He emerged victorious in some form or fashion from nearly every major event on the big dollar bracket calendar. His consistent domination throughout the season earned him the 2010 BTE Power Rankings on ThisIsBracketRacing.com championship, and the title of TIBR's Driver of the Year.

For his efforts, Williams receives a new Top Dragster or Top Sportsman Powerglide transmission courtesy of Bill Taylor Enterprises. Williams also earned an annual subscription to ThisIsBracketRacing.com, a case of K&N Oil Filters, and commemorative BTE Power Rankings Championship decals.

Additional prizes for each of the 2010 top ten finishers were provided by a host of great supporting sponsors, including Bill Taylor Enterprises, K&N Filters, the JEGS U.S. Open Bracket Championships, Nitroplate, The World Footbrake Challenge, J.W. Performance, Nitrous Express, Auto Meter, and Mickey Thompson Tires. The top ten prize fund was distributed as follows:

1.) Gary Williams: 179 Points
BTE Top Dragster or Top Sportsman Powerglide Transmission, Annual Subscription to ThisIsBracketRacing.com, 1 case of K&N Oil Filters.

2.) Jason Lynch: 110 Points
Choice of BTE Torque Converter, Annual Subscription to ThisIsBracketRacing.com, 1 case of K&N Oil Filters.

Lynch finished in the BTE Power Rankings Top 10 for a second consecutive season after earning more than twice as many power points as he did in 2009. Lynch's points came exclusively in the big dollar bracket racing arena, where he generally drives dragsters in the top bulb category. He was runner-up in the $50,000-to-win main event at the Great American Race in Belle Rose, LA and picked up a $20,000 victory at the Thunder Valley Bracket Challenge in Bristol, TN. Lynch earned $10,000 triumphs at the Firecracker Nationals in Muncie, IN, a Tenn-Tuck Triple Crown event in Bowling Green, KY, and the Bradenton 5-Day Championships in Bradenton, FL. He also picked up points with a pair of runner-up finishes at the JEGS U.S. Open Bracket Championships in Indianapolis.

3.) John Labbous, Jr.: 105 Points
$500 Auto Meter Product Certificate, Annual Subscription to ThisIsBracketRacing.com, 1 case of K&N Oil Filters.

Like Lynch, Labbous, Jr. earns a top ten finish in the BTE Power Rankings for a second consecutive season, bettering his 5th place, 79 point finish in 2009. The bulk of Labbous' 2010 points were earned in one weekend, as he dominated the inaugural K&N Spring Fling at Bristol Dragway by winning an unprecedented three consecutive days of competition (and earning over $52,000). He also posted an impressive showing at the Bradenton 5-Day event, winning a pair of $10,000 main events. He added a $10,000 triumph within the Super 7 Series at Montgomery Motorsports Park, along with a trio of $5,000 victories at Atco Raceway, Numidia Dragway, and Alabama International Dragway to round out his 105 point final score.

4.) Todd Ewing: 102 Points
K&N Carbon Fiber Hoodscoop, Annual Subscription to ThisIsBracketRacing.com, 1 case of K&N Oil Filters.

Ewing was the fourth driver of 2010 to crest the 100 point barrier and earned his BTE Power Points in a variety of ways. Ewing won a pair of NHRA National Events, one each in Super Comp (Belle Rose) and Super Stock (Atlanta). He also appeared in a pair of $50,000-to-win finals, emerging victorious from the Great American Race (Belle Rose, LA), and finishing as a runner-up in the World Super Pro Challenge (Stanton, MI). He added two $5,000 victories, one at the Great American Race and another at Alabama International Dragway, as well as a pair of runner-up's in $10,000-to-win events within the Super 7 Series at Montgomery Motorsports Park. Ewing rounded out his ledger with a pair of runner-ups in IHRA Pro-Am competition.

5.) Stephen McCrory: 93 Points
Weekend Entry to the 2011 JEGS U.S. Open Bracket Championships at Beech Bend Raceway Park, Annual Subscription to ThisIsBracketRacing.com, 1 case of K&N Oil Filters.

Though Stephen McCrory had enjoyed success on the big dollar stage in the past, 2010 was definitely his breakout season as he emerged as one of the top competitors in the country. He lived up to his moniker, "Champ," with a $50,000 victory at the World Super Pro Challenge (an event in which he was runner-up in 2009), and picked up the bulk of his points within the Super 7 Series. There, he earned three $10,000 victories and four runner-up finishes en route to the series championship. He won the $5,000 top prize at the annual Gulf Side Shootout in Immokalee, FL and added a $5,000 runner-up at Alabama International Dragway to runner-up finishes at the PBIR 5-Day event and the JEGS U.S. Open Bracket Championships.

6.) Luke Bogacki: 88 Points
Annual Subscription to ThisIsBracketRacing.com, 1 case of K&N Oil Filters.

ThisIsBracketRacing.com's own Luke Bogacki placed in the BTE Power Rankings Top 10 for a second consecutive season, posting just six less than his 94 point total in 2009. This season, he scored three NHRA Lucas Oil event victories to go along with four runner-up finishes between Super Comp and Stock. He was runner-up in the $50,000-to-win main event at the Ultimate 64 Shootout in Cleves, OH, and earned a trio of $10,000 victories between the Tenn-Tuck Triple Crown, the Bradenton 5-Day, and the Ultimate 64. Bogacki padded his points total with a pair of $5,000 wins at Music City Raceway (doubling up in Box and No Box), and a triumph in the King of the Mountain Door Car challenge at the K&N Spring Fling. A final round appearance at the Great American Race along with a $10,000 runner-up at the Million Dollar Race in Muncie, IN and a $5,000 runner-up at Gateway International Raceway near St. Louis rounded out his 88 point total.

7.) Peter Biondo: 87 Points
Nitroplate Coating Gift Certificate, Annual Subscription to ThisIsBracketRacing.com, 1 case of K&N Oil Filters.

Like Lynch, Labbous, and Bogacki, Biondo finished the year ranked in the BTE Power Rankings Top Ten for a second consecutive season. In 2010, Biondo earned a massive 85 point total on the strength of just five major final round appearances. Biondo's racing schedule has decreased in recent years, but he tends to make the most of his outings. Biondo picked up a pair of NHRA National Event triumphs, one each in Stock Eliminator (Chicago) and Super Gas (Charlotte). He picked up a $20,000 victory at the JEGS U.S. Open Bracket Championships, and a $25,000 windfall at the AA Auto Salvage Mega Bucks weekend in Atco, NJ. There, he was also runner-up in another $25,000-to-win event.

8.) Edmond Richardson: 85 Points
1 Set of Mickey Thompson Drive Tires, Annual Subscription to ThisIsBracketRacing.com, 1 case of K&N Oil Filters.

Edmond Richardson added to his legacy in 2010 with a string of final round showings in NHRA and big dollar bracket competition. The prolific sportsman ace dominated the Tenn-Tuck Triple Crown Series, earning three $10,000 victories and a runner-up finish en route to a runaway series championship. He also picked up a pair of $20,000 bracket wins, one at the JEGS U.S. Open Bracket Championships in Indianapolis and another at the Hillbilly Showdown at Mountain Park Dragway. In NHRA competition, Richardson drove to three wins and a runner-up finish within the Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series on his way to top ten finishes in both Super Comp and Stock Eliminator.

9.) Troy Williams, Jr.: 73 Points
$500 Nitrous Express Gift Certificate, Annual Subscription to ThisIsBracketRacing.com, 1 case of K&N Oil Filters.

Troy Williams, Jr. joined the list of back-to-back top ten finishers in the BTE Power Rankings on ThisIsBracketRacing.com with a 2010 campaign that ended within a single point of his 2009 tally (74 points). Williams, best known for his success in big dollar bracket competition, earned his 2010 points in a variety of ways. He kicked off the season with an NHRA LODRS Super Comp victory. He added a pair of victories in IHRA Pro-Am competition, in Top Dragster and Quick Rod at Montgomery Motorsports Park. That same facility hosted a number of Super 7 Bracket Series events in 2010, where Troy enjoyed a pair of $10,000 victories. He also had success along the Tenn-Tuck Triple Crown Series, earning another $10,000 triumph and a pair of runner-up finishes. He took runner-up honors in a $25,000-to-win event at the Thunder Valley Bracket Nationals and Immokalee Regional Raceway's Gulfside Shootout. Williams closed the season with runner-ups at the Bradenton 5-Day event and the Palm Beach International Raceway 5-Day Championships. There, Williams scored his third PBIR (Moroso) 5-Day points title.

10.) Steve Furr: 68 Points
$500 J.W. Performance Gift Certificate, Annual Subscription to ThisIsBracketRacing.com, 1 case of K&N Oil Filters.

Steve Furr was the only member of the 2010 top ten to earn his points exclusively in NHRA and IHRA competition. Furr, a 3-time IHRA World Champion, enjoyed a banner season within both sanctioning bodies. He claimed NHRA National event victories in Gainesville (Super Comp) and Chicago (Super Gas) to go along with a runner-up in Norwalk (Super Gas). He claimed an IHRA Nitro Jam victory in West Palm Beach (Super Rod) and a pair of Sportsman National Event wins in Immokalee, FL and Piedmont, NC (both in Top Dragster). In IHRA Pro-Am competition, he amassed six more final round appearances, winning twice. He also added an NHRA LODRS runner-up for an incredible 14 final round season.

Highest Ranking Bottom Bulb Racer: Dan Fletcher
Weekend Entry to the 2011 World Footbrake Challenge at Bristol Dragway

While 2009 Power Rankings Champion Dan Fletcher narrowly missed the top ten in 2010 (he finished in 11th spot with 65 points), he'll earn a great consolation prize. Fletcher topped standout seasons from Joe Santangelo (54 points), Tony Mandella (49 points) and Michael Beard (37) to earn the highest finish among members who earned all of their BTE Power Points in bottom bulb competition. Fletcher, a longtime standout on the NHRA tour, picked up a trio of national event victories in Stock Eliminator to go along with three runner-ups (2 in Super Stock and one in Stock). He also earned a $5,000 Footbrake triumph at Skyview Drags in September.

ThisIsBracketRacing.com would like to congratulate each of the drivers mentioned above for their outstanding 2010 seasons, as well as each and every one of the 1300+ competitors who earned points within the BTE Power Rankings on ThisIsBracketRacing.com this season. The BTE Power Rankings will return to ThisIsBracketRacing.com in 2011, log on to TIBR for complete details.
