LAS VEGAS --

Jenny Dawson
Jenny Dawson (Super Pro) and Brad Burton (Pro) are the overall points winners of the ninth annual Las Vegas Bracket Nationals at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Sunday's event was started by the wind was too strong to allow the track crews to keep the quarter mile clean and also wreaked havoc with the race cars. In the interest of safety, Sunday's portion of the Thanksgiving Weekend speedfest was cancelled. Dawson (Long Beach, Calif.) and Burton (Golden, Colo.) earned the most points in their respective classes and were declared the overall winners. Burton won the Pro finals on Friday and Saturday, Dawson won Friday's Super Pro finale that was held on Saturday.

SATURDAY: Colton Chamberlain (Motorcycle), Jessica Black (Sportsman) and Brad Burton (Pro) scored final-round victories tonight during the third and next-to-last day of the Las Vegas Bracket Nationals at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. The Super Pro final will be contested Sunday.

The $18,000 winner-take-all Ultimate Gambler ($1,000 entry fee) was won by Don Sefton.
Ron Nickels "went red" (fouled), handing the Pro paycheck to Burton of Golden, Colo.
Jessica Black of Las Vegas defeated Wendy Parsons of Monroe, Utah in the Sportsman category.
Chamberlain, of Las Vegas, defeated Jeff Zogg of Corrinne, Utah, in the Motorcycle finale.

FRIDAY: Brad Burton (Pro), Anthony Forbush (Sportsman) and Jeff Zogg (Motorcycle) scored final-round wins on the second day of the Las Vegas Bracket Nationals at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

Due to unseasonably-cold temperatures (almost 20 degrees below the average), the Super Pro finals were moved to Saturday. When they were held on Saturday, Jenny Dawson of Long Beach won the $5,000 first-prize check.

All three finals were decided on the starting line as the losing drivers and rider fouled (red-lit).

Burton, of Golden, Colo., defeated Jesse Adams of Yuba City, Calif. for Pro honors. Adams "went red" by just .002.
Anthony Forbush of Las Vegas defeated Joy Linehan of Phelan, Calif. in the Sportsman class. Linehan fouled (red-lit) on the starting line by .004.
Jay Mendes of Caldwell, Idaho handed the Motorcycle win to Jeff Zogg of Corrinne, Utah when he went "big red" (-.067.).

THURSDAY: The first day of the Nov. 25-28 Las Vegas Bracket Nationals is in the chilly record books. Unseasonably-cold weather (by Las Vegas standards) caused the final four Super Pro drivers to split the purse. Scott Stauth (Vail Ariz.), Duane Knutsen (Owatowna, Minn.), Don Sefton (Bremerton, Wash.) and Carl Cannavo (N. Las Vegas) evenly divided the semi-final and final-round checks amongst themselves.

In the Pro category, Chris Melnyk of Leduc, Alberta, Canada fired off a near-perfect .001 reaction time and defeated Brad Hawk of Tucson, Ariz.
Wendy Parsons of Monroe, Utah defeated Tammi Phillips of Carson City, Nev. for Sportsman honors.
Colton Chamberlain of Las Vegas won the Motorcycle final when his opponent, Travis Brouguiere of Wildomar, Calif. fouled (red-lit) on the starting line.
