Scali Re-energizes En Route to Sonoma

SONOMA, Calif. -- Though Team Trim-Tex didn’t take the win at the Mopar Mile-High NHRA Nationals, they maintained the Pro Stock Bike championship points lead thanks to a No. 5 qualifying spot and an advance to the semifinals in eliminations.

Now after a brief break between events, driver Geno Scali is ready again for action. Next up is the Fram-Autolite NHRA Nationals in Sonoma, CA, August 1-3. Scali, who unfortunately red lit in the third round at Denver in his run against Blaine Hale, who went on to win his first NHRA event, had some time to think about the race and mentally prepare for the upcoming Sonoma event.

Following the Denver race, he unwound with his wife, Donna, his in-laws, and even the team crew chief, Earl Deglopper, at the Aspen Canyon Ranch in Parshall, CO. At the dude ranch, Scali rode horses and took in the scenic and serene countryside. He was also able to continue his relaxation streak, which started even before the race ended.

“On race days I’ve been so busy taking care of things and focused on the upcoming runs, that I haven’t been able to spend as much time with the fans as I would like. At Denver I started to enjoy things more and then got to spend time with my family at the ranch. It’s like being in God’s country out there,” Scali said.

Now Scali is heading toward Sonoma on his personal touring motorcycle, taking back roads as he goes. When he arrives at Infineon Raceway later this week, he’ll be fully ready for any challenge Sonoma throws at him. “The entire team has had a chance to recoup, so we’ll all physically and mentally ready. Going into this second half of the season, we have to focus on consistency. If my second half is anything like my first half, it’s going to be fun and quite an adventure,” he said.

The Pro Stock Bike class has its first qualifying round at approximately 3 p.m. (PST) Friday, August 1.
