FONTANA, Calif. --

Torres Jr. vs. Langdon

Chad Langdon and Matt Woodard opened the '10 Lucas Oil Super Comp Association, drag racing season with victories at Auto Club Dragway. Langdon-the father of Top Fuel racer Shawn Langdon-won the opening race of the season by defeating sportsman standout Val Torres Jr., in the final, while Matt Woodard defeated Charlie Waggoner in the weekend's second race.

Langdon, driver of the Clay Smith Cams dragster, averaged .010 reaction times on his six rounds of eliminations, as he beat Greg Oliver, Hubert Pierce, Art Rebrovich, Ray Medrano, and Gabe Torres before his final round match. Val Torres Jr., the NHRA Pacific Division Sportsman Driver of the Year and division Super Gas champion, got to the final with wins over Marlin Messer, Danny Fuentes, Larry Kinard and Charlie Waggoner. In the final round, Langdon had a .015 advantage at the line, and took the win with a 8.912, 157.76 to a losing 8.950, 168.24.

Waggoner vs. Woodard

Matt Woodard won his first Super Comp event when he beat the "Shake City Express" dragster of Charlie Waggoner in the final. Woodard combed through six rounds of eliminations by defeating Guy Aguayo, Chuck Babcock, Corey LeClair, and defending series champ Matt Fischle before getting a bye in the semi. Waggoner defeated Larry Kinard, Jeff Murdock, Josh Newton, Andrew Ablott and Ray Medrano before going to the final.

Woodard's .009 reaction time, coupled with an 8.906, 172.67 were more than enough as Waggoner lost with a too-quick 8.895, 160.96.

The Lucas Oil Super Comp point's standings going into the next doubleheader weekend, scheduled for March 20-21 at Auto Club Dragway, has Woodard and Waggoner tied with 142 points, Medrano is next with 133, and Langdon is fourth with 132. Greg Krause, Tom McBride, and Matt Fischle are tied for fifth with 102 points.
