Stops at Darlington and Carolina Dragway also on tap for Heat Wave participants
The 2008 racing season for Division 2 Heat Wave will begin at Ralph Hester's Immokalee Regional Raceway and be highlighted by the
first-ever triple race weekend. The first Sportsman National event, a new concept for added value to all Pro-Am participants hoping
to shoot for a world championship, will take place Feb. 7-10. Thursday will be a test and tune day from noon to 10 pm. Friday the
gates will open at 8 am and two time trial sessions are scheduled before competitors head straight into eliminations. Saturday gates
will open at 8 am for one scheduled one time trial, followed by the second Pro-Am event. Immediately following the second Pro-Am
will be a racer's coming out party and Hester's famous South Florida Stock Suspension race. Sunday there will be one time trial
given before competitors head right into eliminations for the sportsman national event.
"I always look forward to the weekend in Immokalee," IHRA Division 2 director Frank Kohutek said. "Ralph does such a great job
making the weekend a party. Everyone races hard during the day and then unwinds at night. He is such a gracious host, and South
Florida in February is incredible. They have the Seminole Casino nearby and plenty of things to do. It's like a vacation with some
racing thrown in for good measure."
The second stop of the Heat Wave division will be Darlington Dragway Aug. 29-31. Friday will be a test and tune, Saturday will be
the first of two Summit Pro Ams with two time trials and qualifying sessions with eliminations immediately following and Sunday
going directly into eliminations around noon
"Bill Wilson and his crew did an outstanding job last season with their 2007 Summit Pro-Am event," Kohutek said. "Racers came out of
the woodwork to participate and created the largest car count in 2007 for the Division 2 Heat Wave. We expect another great weekend
The third and final stop will be at the "House of Hook," Carolina Dragway.
"Nothing can be said that hasn't already been said about Jeff and Angel Miles and their staff," Kohutek said. "Not only are they
track owners but also avid racers that know what racers want. They always provide a facility and race track that is second to none."
Friday will be a test n tune day, Saturday two time trials will be given before eliminations start for the Summit Pro-Am tour. As a
bonus the always spectacular Thunder Jam will be included in the evening. Sunday, there will only be one time trial with
eliminations immediately following the time trial session.
