Innovative Track Operator Ralph Hester Hosts Three-race Weekend

NORWALK, Ohio --

The season-opening Summit Racing Equipment Pro-Am event at Immokalee Regional Raceway is always one of the biggest parties on the schedule. Track operator Ralph Hester makes sure of that with food, fun and ice cream for everyone in a laid back, friendly environment. And don't forget the sunshine and casino gambling at the Seminole Casino. A couple of years ago IHRA made the race even more attractive by scheduling two Pro-Am events in one weekend, giving racers a chance to compete in two Summit events for the cost of only one tow.

The cost saving, double header concept has expanded to other Summit Pro-Am divisions and tracks across the country. This year Immokalee Regional Raceway and Hester take things one step further.

The 2008 Division 2 Summit Pro-Am lid-lifter, Feb. 8-10, will not just give racers two opportunities to race. IHRA's competition department has developed a unique concept to give racers in Immokalee three chances to score points, two Summit Pro-Ams and another race where national points and contingency will be up for grabs.

Thursday, February 7, the track hosts a test and tune session. On Friday, February 8, the fun begins. Sportsman racers will get two time runs before the initial Summit Pro-Am event kicks off Friday afternoon. Saturday, all competitors will receive another pair of time trials before the second Pro-Am, followed by Hester's popular Stock Suspension heads-up Stocker race.

Sunday morning racers get one time trial, followed by the "Sportsman National" event. National event points, contingency and the newly designed IHRA Ironmen will be at stake Sunday.

"Three races in one weekend with the chance to get national points and contingency, for only one tow, is a great deal," Hester said. "This really is a must-race for everyone. Plus we will have all the things going on people have come to expect from Immokalee Regional Raceway.the great food, pit parties and the ice cream machine will be working overtime. We've also had a lot of facility upgrades so we're looking forward to showing the place off. South Florida is a great place to be in early February. It is going to be a very special weekend, the first-ever national event at Immokalee."

Mike Baker, IHRA director of competition and technical services, thinks the three-race weekend is a good chance for racers to get a jump start on their national event season.

"We came up with this concept because we wanted to give drivers the chance to become IHRA world champions, even if they might not live in our core area geographically," he said. "With the price of diesel fuel this also is a great chance to save some money while competing at a great track. We hope our sportsman drivers will respond very favorably to this unique racing format."
