LINCOLNTON, N.C. --

Jim Brissette
Doug Herbert has shifted duties of his veteran tuner and tuning consultant Jim Brissette to interim crew chief for the Snap-on Tools Top Fuel dragster while Wayne Dupuy recovers from injuries suffered in a recent car accident.

Dupuy suffered multiple injuries from a single-car accident on Nov. 27 and has been hospitalized since.

Brissette served as the tuning consultant to Dupuy on the Snap-on dragster in 2005.

"Jim is going to be inducted into the drag racing hall-of-fame in 2006 and he knows my racecar and Wayne's tune up better than anyone," Herbert said. "We're lucky we have Brissette with our team, especially right now. Jim worked with Wayne over the past six months and he knows exactly what needs to be done. Wayne needs some time to recuperate, so Jim is going to step in and help the team start off the 2006 season right where we left off, as a serious contender."

Brissette has worked with Herbert for several years. Their first success together came in 1992 when Brissette tuned Herbert to the quickest pass in history - a 4.880-second run - as well as the second ever pass over the 300-mph mark, at Pomona in 1993. Brissette also helped Herbert win his first career NHRA event (Columbus 1993) in addition to tuning Herbert to four IHRA championships (1992,'94,'95,'96).

Now Herbert is counting on Brissette to help the Snap-on Tools team prepare for the upcoming season. Herbert went to a career-high four final rounds and finished in sixth place in the final NHRA Top Fuel standings - the best finish of his career.

"We did some great things as a team to finish out the 2005 season and everyone, including Wayne, wants to make sure we start where we left off in November and Jim can help ensure that we do that," Herbert said. "Jim is being honored next year by the hall-of-fame committee for all that he has accomplished in drag racing. He's very talented and he's going to help us in this transition time. Jim has already spent some time in the shop with the crew and he will be back in a couple of weeks to make sure we are ready for pre season testing and the Winternationals in Pomona."

Brissette said he is going to keep the team in a position to win while Dupuy gets healthy.

"We are all in a position to help make sure this team doesn't take a step back from where we finished last season," Brissette said. "We all need to pitch in and take responsibility to keep the team at the level it's been at until Wayne returns. We have the entire team working to make sure that we all pick up the slack. There is no doubt that we'll be ready for testing when it comes around next month."
