6 Rick Jones 3 John Montecalvo
E1 0.068 6.568 213.16 ****WINNER**** 0.044 6.539 211.59

Jones' car appeared to go a bit left of the groove and that had to hurt his time. After the start, they were locked together all the way. John Montecalvo's incremental margins: 60ft(0.031), 330 ft(0.055), 660ft(0.060), 1,000ft(0.057). MOV: 0.0532 seconds (approximately 17 feet).

DeMory broke in the water and was shut off. Gillig made a nice run, losing lane choice to Montecalvo by a thousandth.

5 Elijah Morton 7 Frank Gugliotta
E1 -0.060 6.686 207.40 ****WINNER**** 0.043 6.535 212.83
 Qualified: #11 6.709 207.75 #2 6.521 213.20
After a few minutes to clean up the oil DeMory left in the water box, these two made their burnouts, pulled forward to stage, and the power to the Christmas tree died. The timing system was okay, but the AC power that lights the bulbs blew a breaker. Then Morton got too eager and Gugliotta got an easy win, but he lost lane choice to Spiess in round two.

        Bye 262 Robert Patrick
E1 ****WINNER**** 0.111 6.488 212.96
 Qualified: #1 6.492 212.79
Patrick staged very carefully, getting as shallow as he could, to make sure he got lane choice. He did, resetting the track elapsed time record in the process. He faces Seamon next round.
