EDMONTON, Alb. -- Al Billes pulled off the near impossible.or what everyone thought was the impossible, during Friday qualifying qualifying for the IHRA Rocky Mountain Nationals.

Behind the wheel of Jim Oddy's Dodge Stratus, Billes soared to a 6.150,234.53 run which catapulted him to the top of qualifying for the Torco Race Fuels Pro Modified Shootout.

Not only was his run good enough for the No. 1 seed heading into Saturday, but it also gave him both ends of the Budweiser Motorsports Park's track record.

Hanging on to the No. 2 spot is Street, Md.-resident, Jim Halsey. Halsey posted a 6.204,225.33 run.

Local favorite, Rick DiStefano out of Calgary grabbed a hold of the No. 3 place with a 6.224,227.88 in his '53 Corvette.

Teammates, Mike Castellana and Shannon Jenkins rounded out the top five. Castellana pushed his Western Beef entry into the No. 4 spot with a 6.232,227.50 while Jenkins was close behind with a 6.253,225.45 run.

The second round of Torco Race Fuels Pro Modified Shootout qualifying will begin at 4 P.M. (MT) on Saturday.
