Funny Car Qualifying Notes, Session #2
By Larry Sullivan

EDMONTON, Alb. - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Funny Car at the 2005 Hooters IHRA Drag Racing Series, Third Annual Western RV Rocky Mountain Nationals presented by TORCO Race Fuels listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Scott McVey Runs 6.254/228.11, Now #6; Best prior run: 7.445/143.84, Was #10
Right Lane: Kevin Therres Runs 6.314/226.58, Now #9; Best prior run: 6.432/214.89, Was #8

8:53 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 66 degrees, relative humidity 57 percent, barometer 27.64 inches, adjusted altitude 3,407 feet, track temperature 86 degrees.

McVey ran away from Therres early in the run, which looked better than the numbers that came up. Still, a nice improvement for the Winnepeg resident.

Left Lane: Terry McMillen Runs 6.056/232.35, Now #4; Best prior run: 6.265/230.17, Was #7
Right Lane: Thomas Carter Runs 6.006/234.57, Now #3; Best prior run: 6.107/234.98, Was #3

Two very nice runs for these two, moving well up in the field.

Left Lane: John Evanchuk Runs 6.122/229.63, Now #5; Best prior run: 6.245/232.47, Was #6
Right Lane: Nathan Sitko Runs 6.208/225.67, Now #7; Best prior run: 6.301/224.02, Was #8

Both Edmonton drivers improved by about a tenth over their earlier efforts.

Left Lane: Mark Thomas Runs 5.967/232.71, Now #3; Best prior run: 6.791/153.18, Was #10
Right Lane: Trevor Lebsack Runs 6.112/232.23, Now #6; No Prior Run

Thomas had to slow and take evasive action in the first session when Lebsack crossed into Thomas' lane. This time around, Lebsack did a much better job of reining in his car when it drifted toward the centerline and both drivers bumped into the field. That bumped Sitko and McVey. Ken Kraus is on the bump spot at 6.132.

Right Lane: Rob Atchison Runs 5.842/240.42, Now #1; Best prior run: 5.869/240.29, Was #1

Both ends of the track record for Atchison, for the second time today.

Right Lane: Jim Sickles Runs 5.920/239.02, Now #2; Best prior run: 5.946/238.60, Was #2

Another fine run by Sickles...

Left Lane: Alan Tarapaski No Time, Now #12; Best prior run: 8.075/165.36, Was #12

Tarapaski rolled the beams and did not get a time.
