Thunderbolts Qualifying Notes, Session #2
By Larry Sullivan

EDMONTON, Alb. - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Thunderbolts at the 2005 Hooters IHRA Drag Racing Series, Third Annual Western RV Rocky Mountain Nationals presented by TORCO Race Fuels listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed this round, amount over/under index this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time, speed & over/under Index, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Sherrie Bodnarchuk Runs 7.313/188.94/-0.187, Now #6; TB Index: 7.50, Prior Best: 7.937/145.64/0.437, Was #6
Right Lane: Shawn Bulechowsky No Time, Now #7; TB Index: 7.50, Prior Best: 7.961/172.12/0.461, Was #7

8:05 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 66 degrees, relative humidity 57 percent, barometer 27.64 inches, adjusted altitude 3,407 feet, track temperature 86 degrees.

The "Night of Fire" got off to a slow start when Bulechowsky's Nova (complete with doors and chrome-trimmed windows) flamed out on the burnout, a blower belt laying on the track. These cars are a mix of Funny Car and Pro Mod/Gasser body styles, some flip-top, some doorslammers, running against a 7.50 performance limit for qualifying. Bodnarchuk waited patiently, then went way under the 7.50 index, so her earlier run is still her best run.

Left Lane: Eddy Plaizier Runs 7.425/181.47/-0.075, Now #6; TB Index: 7.50
Right Lane: Tim Stevenson No Time, Now #7; TB Index: 7.50

Stevenson's car fired under the building, but the body latch on the stretched '48 Fiat refused to engage and he shut it off. Plaizier also broke out, his earlier 7.635 still his best run.

Left Lane: Cal Tebb Runs 7.536/178.99/0.036, Now #6; TB Index: 7.50
Right Lane: Tony Coopress Runs 7.690/181.32/0.190, Now #7; TB Index: 7.50

Both teams should be happy with those runs, better than their first without breaking out.

Left Lane: Cory Kincaid Runs 8.134/133.82/0.634, Now #6; TB Index: 7.50
Right Lane: Darrell Webb Runs 7.525/180.33/0.025, Now #7; TB Index: 7.50

Nice run by Webb, hard and straight. Kincaid had to pedal it on the launch.

Left Lane: Brent Harris No Time, Now #6; TB Index: 7.50
Right Lane: Duane Grosart Runs 7.510/183.02/0.010, Now #7; TB Index: 7.50

Grosart's '55 Chevy sports all the chrome trim and has working doors, plus a Top Fuel-style rear wing. Harris' '33 Willys also sports a strut-mounted wing. The Willys shut off after the burnout. Grosart made another fine run that should keep him #1 in the order.

Right Lane: Jay Mageau Runs 7.693/181.47/0.193, Now #7; TB Index: 7.50

Good run, no help in qualifying.
