Pro Stock Qualifying Notes, Session #1
By Larry Sullivan

EDMONTON, Alb. - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Torco Race Fuels Pro Stock at the Third Annual Western RV Rocky Mountain Nationals presented by TORCO Race Fuels listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:
Left Lane: Chuck DeMory Runs 6.734/207.30, Now #2
Right Lane: John Montecalvo Runs 6.537/212.43, Now #1

4:58 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 68 degrees, relative humidity 48 percent, barometer 27.68 inches, adjusted altitude 3,460 feet, track temperature 103 degrees.

Wow! Montecalvo blew the track elapsed time record into oblivion on this pass. It was a beauty, quick right feom the start. John Montecalvo's incremental times: 60ft-0.998 sec., 330ft-2.767, 660ft-4.225/169.02mph, 1,000ft-5.478.

Left Lane: Elijah Morton Runs 6.769/206.35, Now #4
Right Lane: Frank Gugliotta Runs 6.530/214.01, Now #1

That didn't last long - Gugliotta reset both ends of the track record on another pretty-looking run. Frank Gugliotta's incremental times: 60ft-1.004 sec., 330ft-2.772, 660ft-4.228/169.55mph, 1,000ft-5.477.

Left Lane: Pete Berner Runs 6.608/211.93, Now #4
Right Lane: Tony Gillig Runs 6.554/212.23, Now #3

Gillig's car wiggled a bit on the launch and had the right side out of the groove early in the run, but he recovered nicely and posted a surprising number. Tony Gillig's incremental times: 60ft-1.003 sec., 330ft-2.780, 660ft-4.239/169.00mph, 1,000ft-5.494

Left Lane: Rick Jones Runs 6.619/212.09, Now #6
Right Lane: Jerry Haas Runs 6.578/212.29, Now #4

Jones' car made a big move to the left on the launch, way over near the wall. Haas went right down the groove.

Right Lane: Daniel Seamon Runs 6.564/213.33, Now #4

Another nice run, this one with no visible flaws. Daniel Seamon's incremental times: 60ft-1.004 sec., 330ft-2.790, 660ft-4.254/168.60mph, 1,000ft-5.509.

Left Lane: Steve Spiess Runs 6.586/212.93, Now #7
Right Lane: Robert Patrick Runs 6.532/212.46, Now #2

The #1 and #2 in points finish the round with two nice runs after both were a bit loose on the launch. Patrick had the better run and it looks like the right lane may be a bit better than the left. Robert Patrick's incremental times: 60ft-0.991 sec., 330ft-2.760, 660ft-4.218/168.87mph, 1,000ft-5.473. Steve Spiess' incremental times: 60ft-1.016 sec., 330ft-2.809, 660ft-4.272/168.62mph, 1,000ft-5.527
