By Larry Sullivan

GRAND BEND, Ont. - Notes from final, round 3 qualifying in Funny Car at the 2005 Hooters IHRA Drag Racing Series, Sixth annual Mopar Canadian Nationals presented by Castrol listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:

7:50 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 83 degrees, relative humidity 69 percent, barometer 29.35 inches, adjusted altitude 2,612 feet, track temperature 101 degrees. Terry McMillen is on the bump spot at 6.089.

We open with two clean runs, neither was an improvement.

Left Lane: Trevor Lebsack Runs 6.186/227.77, Now #9; Best prior run: 6.641/177.07, Was #13
Right Lane: Mark Thomas Runs 5.943/239.48, Now #3; Best prior run: 5.944/236.80, Was #4

Thomas' car was smoking from the left headers from half track on, but he improved a thousandth of a second and moved up one rung on the ladder, breaking an elapsed time tie with Chris Foster.

Left Lane: Jean-Guy Genest Runs 6.491/212.13, Now #13; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Terry Munroe Runs 6.153/233.36, Now #9; Best prior run: 6.264/186.74, Was #10

Genest shut off after the burnout on his only other attempt. This time he got the car down the track, but missed the cut by a bunch. Munroe picked up a tenth of a second from his first run today, but came up short of the bump time.

Left Lane: Chris Foster Runs 5.927/237.13, Now #3; Best prior run: 5.944/237.13, Was #4
Right Lane: Paul Noakes Runs 6.141/237.30, Now #9; Best prior run: 6.405/234.29, Was #11

Foster moved back around Thomas with a nice run, straight and smooth. Noakes made his best run of the weekend, ended up in the first-alternate spot.

Left Lane: Jim Sickles Runs 5.929/239.40, Now #4; Best prior run: 5.945/238.81, Was #5
Right Lane: Larry Dobbs Runs 6.881/148.54, Now #6; Best prior run: 5.969/232.87, Was #6

Sickles made a nice, straight pass to move around Thomas on the ladder. Dobbs' engine started smoking at half track and he slowed.

Left Lane: Terry McMillen Runs 6.984/141.65, Now #8; Best prior run: 6.089/230.02, Was #8

Two left-lane singles will finish the round, both drivers already in the field, looking to improve their standing. McMillen's run looked good to half track, then the pipes went wet and he slowed.

Left Lane: Frederick Tigges Runs 5.887/240.08, Now #2; Best prior run: 5.924/240.55, Was #2

Tigges closed the round with a great run, but he could not knock Atchison off the top of the list.

That closes qualifying for the floppers, Atchison and McMillen set to face each other in the first round.
