Funny Car Qualifying Notes, Session #2
By Larry Sullivan

GRAND BEND, Ont. - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Funny Car at the 2005 Hooters IHRA Drag Racing Series, Sixth annual Mopar Canadian Nationals presented by Castrol listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Frederick Tigges Runs 5.924/240.55, Now #2; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Jeff Lancaster Runs 7.104/140.96, Now #9; Best prior run: 6.570/175.78, Was #8

3:09 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 88 degrees, relative humidity 62 percent, barometer 29.36 inches, adjusted altitude 2,984 feet, track temperature 132 degrees.

Both runs were ugly, Tigges all over the lane, trailing smoke on the top end, and Lancaster with a lot of smoke at the finish line. Despite Tigges' obvious problems, he was quick enough to move into the field on his first run of the weekend.

Left Lane: Terry McMillen Runs 6.089/230.02, Now #7; Best prior run: 6.228/227.23, Was #7
Right Lane: Larry Dobbs Runs 6.079/227.54, Now #6; Best prior run: 5.969/232.87, Was #6

Both runs started out looking pretty good, but both cars had their tongues hanging out in the middle of their runs.

Left Lane: Trevor Lebsack Runs 6.641/177.07, Now #11; Best prior run: 13.681/57.32, Was #12
Right Lane: Terry Munroe Runs 6.264/186.74, Now #8; No Prior Run

Lebsack's car was weak off the starting line and never did pick the pace up. Munroe was on a strong pace early, but the car nosed over and started trailing smoke around half track. He squeaked into the field, but that time probably won't keep him there.

Left Lane: Thomas Carter Runs 5.990/236.30, Now #7; Best prior run: 9.764/87.18, Was #12
Right Lane: Mark Thomas Runs 5.995/234.37, Now #4; Best prior run: 5.944/236.80, Was #4

That's more like it - side-by-side full runs. Nothing spectacular, but nice, smooth runs in the heat of the afternoon. Carter bumped Munroe and Terry McMillen is on the bump spot at 6.089.

Left Lane: Chris Foster Runs 5.945/236.22, Now #3; Best prior run: 5.944/237.13, Was #3
Right Lane: Paul Noakes Runs 6.405/234.29, Now #10; Best prior run: 12.577/66.18, Was #13

Noakes shook and smoked the tires, then drove out of it, but he lost a lot of time. Nice pass by Foster, almost a twin of the run he made last night.

Left Lane: Jim Sickles Runs 5.945/238.81, Now #5; Best prior run: 5.952/230.21, Was #5
Right Lane: Rob Atchison Runs 5.923/239.02, Now #1; Best prior run: 5.844/238.98, Was #1

Nice! Atchison's car made a move to the left on the launch and he smoothly brought it back to the groove. Sickles went right down the groove with a smooth, straight pass.

Right Lane: John Evanchuk Runs 10.121/68.90, Now #11; Best prior run: 6.460/205.19, Was #11

Evanchuk launched, then something in the driveline broke, the RPMs went way up and then the supercharger let go, sending the hood hatch sailing through the air.
