Right Lane: Steve Bareman Runs 6.451/217.25, Now #2
8:12 p.m. The weather appears to be moving away from us.
Pontieri went right down
the groove, making a nice, conservative pass. Bareman appeared to have it loaded up a bit,
fighting to keep the car going straight for the first half of the run.
Left Lane: Roy Wasko No Time, Now #4
Right Lane: Keith Baker Runs 6.328/221.49, Now #1
Wasko broke on the burnout and was pushed away. Baker made another nice, safe pass, the front end of the car in the air for the first 100 feet or so.
Left Lane: David Roemer Runs 6.734/184.62, Now #4
Right Lane: Kenny Lang No Time, Now #6
Lang's car did not fire and his crew removed the front bodywork, to no avail. Roemer's car labored through the middle of the run after making the quickest launch of the round so far, posting a 1.039 60-foot time.
Left Lane: Carl Spiering Runs 10.575/87.27, Now #5
Spiering had the front wheels up and the rear tires chattering, riding the wheelie bars about 100 feet before the car headed for the wall and he lifted.
Left Lane: Carl Bullock Runs 6.924/158.82, Now #6
Right Lane: Mike Lockwood Runs 6.415/218.05, Now #3

the track. meanwhile, Lockwood made a nice, safe run.
Left Lane: Rick DiStefano Runs 6.377/220.87, Now #4
Right Lane: Burton Auxier Runs 6.339/220.48, Now #2
Two good runs here, DiStefano's car a bit loose early in the run, but in the groove.
Left Lane: Mike Castellana Runs 9.057/103.24, Now #10
Right Lane: Billy Harper Runs 6.277/222.69, Now #1
Castellana spun the tires hard on the launch. Harper got the Viper hooked up nicely and made a nice run, but there was a big puff of flame out the right side as he shut it down in the lights.
Left Lane: Charles Carpenter Runs 6.407/219.61, Now #7
Right Lane: Harold Martin Runs 6.293/224.73, Now #2
Carpenter spun the tires for the first 100 feet, killing his elapsed time. Nice pass by Martin, not spectacular, but better than most this round.
Left Lane: Eddie Ware Runs 6.370/216.06, Now #7
Right Lane: Mike Janis Runs 6.342/226.39, Now #5
Ware's car kept trying to get out of the groove and turn sideways, but he would not let it do so. Good opening pass by Janis, one to tune from.
Left Lane: Jim Halsey Runs 6.326/223.17, Now #3
Right Lane: Dennis Radford Runs 10.922/75.73, Now #17
Halsey's car was showing flickering header flames from both sides of the car, but went right down the groove. Radford shut off early, the car not going anywhere.
Left Lane: Ed Hoover Runs 6.332/224.47, Now #5
Right Lane: Quain Stott Runs 6.426/223.91, Now #13
Hoover was off to a strong start, but the car got very sideways about 200 feet out and it sounded like he pedaled it to straighten the car out. Stott had a lot of tire spin on the launch.
Left Lane: Shannon Jenkins Runs 6.191/227.11, Now #1
Right Lane: Al Billes Runs 9.074/112.14, Now #19
Billes' car shook and wandered around, so he lifted. Jenkins was on a very strong pass, also showing a big puff of flame from both sides of the engine when he shut it down. He went to #1. David Roemer is on the bump spot at 6.734.
