Pro Stock Bike Qualifying Notes, Session #1

POMONA, Calif. - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Pro Stock Bike at the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, 40th annual Automobile Club of Southern California NHRA Finals listing lane, rider name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:
Left Lane: Jay Matthews Runs 7.239/183.72, Now #1
Right Lane: Ryan Schnitz Runs 7.325/181.62, Now #2

2:14 p.m. Pro Stock Bike enters the stage from the left and we'll do some two wheel drag racing. Weather conditions: air temperature 62 degrees, relative humidity 70 percent, barometer 29.08 inches, adjusted altitude 1,470 feet, track temperature 82 degrees.

The first pair got into their tuck early and ran them right out the back door.

Left Lane: Wesley Wells Runs 7.332/177.58, Now #3
Right Lane: Mike Lozano Runs 7.441/177.09, Now #4

Nothing to say about this pair. Side by side but they need a couple of tenths.

Left Lane: Joe DeSantis Runs 7.162/185.23, Now #1
Right Lane: Connie Cohen Runs 7.381/180.55, Now #5

Joe DeSantis just has one drop out of the sky on him. He runs .07 better than his career best. Cohen gets a fair lap.

Left Lane: Chip Ellis Runs 7.063/187.36, Now #1
Right Lane: Redell Harris Runs 7.389/175.80, Now #7

Ellis moves the bar again. Could this be the weekend for the '6'?

Left Lane: Fred Camarena Runs 7.294/181.03, Now #4
Right Lane: Kurt Matte No Time, Now #10

Matte breaks and coasts to a stop before the finish. Camarena goes to #4.

Left Lane: Blaine Hale Runs 7.236/186.54, Now #3
Right Lane: Matt Smith No Time, Now #12

Smith breaks and gets no time. Hale to #3.

Left Lane: Chip Hunter No Time, Now #14
Right Lane: Mike Berry Runs 7.185/185.84, Now #3

Hunter breaks on his burnout and Berry is now in the #3 spot.

Left Lane: Michael Phillips Runs 7.137/187.26, Now #2
Right Lane: Karen Stoffer Runs 7.284/176.81, Now #7

Phillips just misses the top spot and has to settle for #2. Stoffer is top half.

Left Lane: Steve Johnson Runs 7.194/182.08, Now #6
Right Lane: Geno Scali Runs 7.091/188.65, Now #2

Scali is even closer to bumping Ellis out of the top spot. Johnson gets a good opener.

Left Lane: GT Tonglet Runs 7.126/188.83, Now #3
Right Lane: Craig Treble Runs 7.187/184.57, Now #7

Tonglet gets top speed but misses Ellis by a bit. Treble is top half for the moment.

Left Lane: Shawn Gann Runs 7.384/178.83, Now #17
Right Lane: Angelle Savoie Runs 7.157/185.95, Now #5

Gann is wearing an American flag for Veterans day and Savoie is saluting WW2 veterans with olive drab paint. Gann misses the show and Savoie is #5.

Left Lane: Antron Brown Runs 7.118/187.31, Now #3
Right Lane: Andrew Hines Runs 8.447/117.64, Now #21

Brown's bike is done in the sand color from WW2 for his Veterans salute. He misses the top spot by .05. Hines sits sits up early and will need another session. That ends the first bike session and we have Ellis on the pole and Wells on the bump.
