DALLAS-2 - Federal-Mogul Dragster Round 1 Eliminations
By Michael L. Jex

ENNIS, Texas - Results of round 1 eliminations in Federal-Mogul Dragster at the 15th annual O'Reilly Fall Nationals presented by Castrol Syntec:

  12 Steve Faria 5.596 252.10 Q 5 Bruce Bowler 5.505 250.92
 *****WINNER***** 0.508 5.619 253.75 E1 0.000 No Time
12:34 PM Bowler was a no-show, so the Darien & Meadows A-Fueler had a free ride into the second round. The crew didn't look happy with this run, though it looked pretty good from here. By the way, Brandon Bernstein (Kenny's son) will be driving this car next year, preparing to take over the wheel of the Budweiser King dragster in a couple years.

   8 Mark Hentges 5.550 256.55 Q 9 Douglas Foley 5.557 252.90
 *****WINNER***** 0.491 5.625 238.26 E1 0.000 No Time
Foley also failed to make the return trip here, so Foley gets a freebie of his own. He made an easy pass, right down the groove.

   4 David Wells 5.496 258.52 Q 13 Shelly Howard 5.625 253.66
 *****WINNER***** 0.442 5.555 255.48 E1 0.444 5.600 245.40
Shelley had Wells covered all the way to the 1,000-foot marker, then the engine started eating itself and Wells drove by to win by a margin of victory = 0.047 seconds (approximately 17 feet), also earning lane choice against Faria in round two..

   7 Troy Buff 5.547 254.47 Q 10 Billy Bybee 5.576 247.61
 *****WINNER***** 0.555 5.516 257.53 E1 0.000 No Time
Bybee was another no-show. Buff went for lane choice on a strong pass, the revs getting a bit high in first gear before he shifted.

  14 Joe Fuentes 5.641 248.34 Q 18 Bill Ancona 6.499 194.74
 *****WINNER***** 0.493 5.563 251.86 E1 0.000 No Time
Ancona was in as an alternate, but his engine would not fire, so Fuentes got a solo run. He went right down the groove on a smooth pass.

  15 Randy Meyer 5.688 227.80 Q 17 Gene Snow 5.781 218.97
                  0.114 5.590 220.55 E1 *****WINNER***** 0.341 12.315 60.15
Snow was also in as an alternate. Meyer was way early, then ran his best lap of the weekend, while Snow launched and then shut it off almost immediately, a winner nonetheless. Buff will have lane choice against Snow in round two.

   6 Jay Meyer 5.520 253.90 Q 11 Steve Federlin 5.590 254.04
 *****WINNER***** 0.396 5.452 255.34 E1 0.361 8.845 85.32
Final pair. Federlin left early and Meyer ran low ET of the round, by a ton, easily earning lane choice over Hentges in round two.
