ANAHEIM, Calif. -- Top racers in four professional categories of the NHRA POWERADE Drag Racing Series will compete for additional bonuses of $1,185,000 in 2002 through the POWERADE Top 10 program, which allows fans to follow POWERADE championship contenders as they pursue their respective titles. This program brings POWERADE's total payout to NHRA competitors to $3,013,750 per year, as POWERADE pays year-end bonuses totaling over $1.8 million to leading drivers in the four pro categories. In the POWERADE Top 10 program, bonuses totaling $50,000 per race are paid at each national event to drivers in the top 10 in the NHRA POWERADE Drag Racing Series point standings entering that event. The top 10 drivers entering each race in Top Fuel and Funny Car receive $2,000, and the 10 leading Pro Stock racers receive $1,000 each. Another $2,500 is paid at each of the 14 races that include Pro Stock Motorcycle racing. The top 10 riders entering each Pro Stock Motorcycle event receive $250 each. The National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) and The Coca-Cola Company's POWERADE brand today announced a five-year, multi-tiered agreement naming POWERADE as the title sponsor of the NHRA's prestigious 23-race national event series, which will be called the NHRA POWERADE Drag Racing Series beginning with the 2002 season.
