TOPEKA - Pro Stock Truck Qualifying Notes, Final Session

Some things never change



TOPEKA, Kan. - Notes from final, round 4 qualifying in Pro Stock Truck at the 12th annual Advance Auto Parts Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:


Right Lane: Douglas Harris Runs 7.936/170.88, Now #32; Best prior run: 7.845/171.86, Was #32

5:24 PM Harris begins the final round of Pro Stock Truck qualifying with a solo pass.

Right Lane: Lou Ficco Runs 7.709/174.44, Now #27; Best prior run: 7.723/174.66, Was #28

Ficco had a smooth run, but it wasn't enough to get him into the field.

Left Lane: Chip Ippolito Runs 7.814/171.31, Now #31; Best prior run: 7.790/172.85, Was #31
Right Lane: Craig Eaton Runs 7.798/171.23, Now #28; Best prior run: 7.714/173.21, Was #28

Ippolito was moving around quite a bit in his lane.

Left Lane: Joe Pigford Runs 7.806/172.81, Now #30; Best prior run: 7.755/174.14, Was #30
Right Lane: Dale Eaton Runs 7.730/174.03, Now #26; Best prior run: 7.675/174.82, Was #26

No help for either driver here.

Left Lane: Bob Yonke Runs 8.899/111.00, Now #29; Best prior run: 7.744/172.52, Was #29
Right Lane: Larry Seay Runs 7.727/173.70, Now #25; Best prior run: 7.672/174.48, Was #25

Yonke was all over the place, almost crossed the centerline at 700'.

Left Lane: Steven Farr Runs 7.700/173.52, Now #20; Best prior run: 7.652/174.87, Was #20
Right Lane: Jim Kennedy Runs 7.791/172.61, Now #24; Best prior run: 7.668/174.37, Was #24

Neither driver is able to step it up enough to make the field.

Left Lane: Ruben Celedon Runs 7.663/174.98, Now #19; Best prior run: 7.650/175.43, Was #19
Right Lane: Kim Smith Runs 7.713/174.64, Now #23; Best prior run: 7.661/175.39, Was #23

Again, no help for either driver.

Left Lane: Jeff Naiser Runs 7.654/174.75, Now #16; Best prior run: 7.638/175.05, Was #16
Right Lane: Rick Jones Runs 7.731/173.87, Now #22; Best prior run: 7.657/174.98, Was #22

Jones headed for the centerline early, but was able to straighten it out.

Left Lane: Brian Self Runs 7.680/174.21, Now #14; Best prior run: 7.632/175.32, Was #14
Right Lane: Rob Slavinski Runs 7.782/174.12, Now #21; Best prior run: 7.656/175.96, Was #21

Slavinski ran close to the wall for most of the pass.

Left Lane: Don Smith Runs 7.640/175.32, Now #13; Best prior run: 7.628/175.59, Was #13
Right Lane: Scott Perin Runs 7.644/174.91, Now #18; Best prior run: 7.644/174.50, Was #18

Perin equaled his previous best, but it still wasn't good enough.

Left Lane: Mark Whisnant Runs 7.659/174.62, Now #11; Best prior run: 7.623/175.84, Was #11
Right Lane: Taylor Lastor Runs 7.710/174.57, Now #17; Best prior run: 7.641/175.41, Was #17

Lastor can't break into the field.

Left Lane: Todd Patterson Runs 7.643/174.48, Now #10; Best prior run: 7.621/175.37, Was #10
Right Lane: John Coughlin Runs 7.747/174.01, Now #15; Best prior run: 7.635/175.18, Was #15

No improvement for either driver.

Left Lane: Mike Coughlin Runs 7.673/174.77, Now #9; Best prior run: 7.621/176.84, Was #9
Right Lane: Larry Kopp Runs 7.675/175.30, Now #12; Best prior run: 7.627/176.14, Was #12

It doesn't look like the track conditions are going to let anyone improve this afternoon.

Left Lane: David Spitzer Runs 7.648/174.68, Now #6; Best prior run: 7.609/175.52, Was #6
Right Lane: Bart Price Runs 7.673/175.52, Now #8; Best prior run: 7.617/176.26, Was #8

Price veered toward the wall after coming down off a wheelie and was able to straighten it out.

Left Lane: Jeff Gracia Runs 7.634/175.66, Now #5; Best prior run: 7.606/176.97, Was #5
Right Lane: John Lingenfelter Runs 7.645/175.02, Now #7; Best prior run: 7.610/175.21, Was #7

....and things stay the same.

Left Lane: Randy Daniels Runs 7.640/175.75, Now #4; Best prior run: 7.599/176.93, Was #4
Right Lane: Steve Johns Runs 7.649/175.48, Now #2; Best prior run: 7.593/176.65, Was #2

Considering the conditions, a strong pass for both drivers.

Left Lane: Greg Stanfield Runs 7.613/176.86, Now #3; Best prior run: 7.596/176.86, Was #3
Right Lane: Bob Panella Jr Runs 7.592/177.32, Now #1; Best prior run: 7.585/176.95, Was #1

That was the final pair in this round. The only thing that changed was Panella just ran the fastest speed of the weekend. He remains on the pole and will face Jeff Naiser, the number sixteen qualifier in the first round of eliminations tomorrow.
