Named Co-Crew Chief on Red Car

ORANGE, Calif. -- Rob Flynn, who has been acting as a Tuning Consultant for Chuck and Del Worsham's Checker-Schuck's-Kragen Pontiac Funny Car program since the Denver race in July, has been promoted to Co-Crew Chief and has accepted the full time position through the 2001 NHRA Winston Drag Racing season. He will share the Crew Chief role on the team's red car with owner Chuck Worsham.

"As soon as Rob joined us we got better," Del Worsham said from the team's headquarters in Orange, California. "The car ran better, the team worked better, everything improved. We've been talking since then about making this a full time position, and we're thrilled to have Rob on board as Co-Crew Chief. It means a lot to our program to know we're heading into 2001 with our guns loaded."

Flynn will concentrate on the team's red car, driven by Worsham, but will continue to provide overall assistance on both sides of the two-car pit area. Working with blue team Crew Chief Dave Fletcher, Flynn will help coordinate the flow of information between the two cars.

"Rob will mainly work on the red side of the pit," Worsham said. "But our program is all about the transfer of data, with information flowing all the time, so his input shows up on both cars. Specifically, Rob has taken over a lot of the technical things I've always done on the red car, which frees me up for other things I've had to put off. Since he joined us this summer our tune-up calls have been much better, mainly because we can now share these duties and my dad and I aren't working on the car as frantically. Having Rob here gives us all time to think and compare ideas, and we found out in a hurry that our ideas mesh pretty well and our cars run faster."

Flynn is extremely pleased to be formalizing his role on the team, and is outspoken about his feelings.

"Working for the Worshams has been a fantastic thing for me," said the veteran tuner. "There will be other high profile jobs opening up over the next couple of months, I would imagine, and a lot of other guys might hold out to weigh all their options. But I knew in my heart I wanted to work here, and I was eager for the other teams, our sponsors, and our fans to know that I'm very happy to be a long term part of this program. This is a rewarding place to work, and this group is one of the most professional and most dedicated crews I've ever been a part of. I feel very fortunate to be in this position with this team. The potential here is so great."

The Flynn appointment comes only one week after the team's announcement regarding the rehiring of Crew Chief Dave Fletcher and driver Frank Pedregon on the blue Checker-Schuck's-Kragen team. Chuck Worsham is excited about the moves.

"We have a great thing going here," said red car driver's owner/tuner/father. "The people we've put together have some special qualities, and we all seem to make the whole thing better. I thought the key was wrapping up these core people for the future and keeping this unit growing together. Its exciting because we're just beginning to mature as a program now. This two-car team is really still very young, and we've got a lot more growing to do, but we're definitely headed in the right direction."

Flynn's appointment is effective immediately.
