MOHNTON, Pa. - Results of round 1 eliminations in Federal-Mogul Funny Car at the 16th annual Keystone Nationals:

   1 Tony Bartone        5.549 257.73  Q   12 William Fulford     6.819 155.40

3:32 PM Bartone set the National ET Record in round three of qualifying earlier today. Bartone wins this one easily, the car never missing a beat. Fulford had his hands full right off the line. The car pulls the wheels and gets up on the wheelie bar. Then it gets on the left rear tire before slamming back down and tearing up the front suspension.

   2 Paul Gill           5.607 259.41  Q   11 Darrel Cox          6.795 156.34
 *****WINNER***** 0.485  5.666 256.75  E1                  0.000 No Time
3:41 PM and we're down for a rain delay. 4:08 PM The track is dry and they just fired up the engines. Cox is a no show this round and Gill will get a bye. Gill gets a little out of shape and gets close to the centerline.

   4 Frank Manzo         5.626 256.06  Q    9 Ed Fisher           6.056 238.05
 *****WINNER***** 0.513  5.585 257.28  E1                  0.541  5.964 241.37
Manzo get a slight advantage off the line and extends the lead all the way through. He veers towards the center-line but straightens it out for the win.

  10 Jeff McCulloch      6.160 203.03  Q    3 Bob Newberry        5.616 256.84
                  0.453  8.537 103.47  E1 *****WINNER***** 0.522  5.631 256.55
McCulloch blows the burst panel about 300 feet out. Newberry makes a decent pass but loses lane choice to Manzo in round two.

   7 Bruce Mullins       5.803 239.61  Q    6 Jay Payne           5.734 253.33
                  0.472  5.884 236.67  E1 *****WINNER***** 0.563  5.737 249.90
Mullins gets the advantage off the starting line but gets a little out of shape about 100 feet out. Payne catches him by half-track and takes the win. Payne loses lane choice to Bartone in round two.

   5 Fran Monaghan       5.730 248.71  Q    8 Craig English       5.963 241.71
 *****WINNER***** 0.534  5.722 250.92  E1                  0.447 No Time
English leaves the line and shakes the tires. He scrapes the right wall and his time is disqualified. Monaghan takes the win but deposits oil on the track from about 1000 feet out all the way through the lights. He will run Gill in round two, Gill with lane choice.
