Left Lane: Terry Haddock Runs 8.572/101.89, Now #20; Best prior run: 5.857/192.47, Was #19
Right Lane: Whit Bazemore Runs 5.631/178.50, Now #19; Best prior run: 8.190/97.91, Was #20
5:26 PM Bazemore hasn't made a full pass all weekend and this will be his last chance to get in the show....and he doesn't do it. He was on a good pass that would have gotten him in, then the engine shut down, raw fuel coming out of the pipes. Haddock pulls the wheels, pedals and gets back on it, pulls the wheels again and shuts it down. This is the first time this year Bazemore has failed to qualify.
Left Lane: Tommy Johnson Jr. Runs 9.677/75.29, Now #16; Best prior run: 5.167/245.49, Was #16
Right Lane: Phil Burkart Runs 14.726/76.87, Now #18; Best prior run: 5.627/191.87, Was #18
Johnson is on the bump and Burkart could bump him out here. Johnson comes out of the hole and he blows the burst panel off the car. Burkart goes up in smoke right off the line.
Left Lane: Ron Capps Runs 5.002/282.36, Now #10; Best prior run: 5.065/269.89, Was #13
Right Lane: Dale Creasy Jr. Runs 14.740/68.08, Now #17; Best prior run: 5.612/204.63, Was #17
Creasy is the last driver that can knock Johnson out of the field for tomorrow....but he can't do it. Creasy loses traction right off the starting line and has to shut it down. Capps was on a very good run but hazes the tires a little past half-track.
Left Lane: Bob Gilbertson Runs 5.775/180.48, Now #13; Best prior run: 5.053/265.17, Was #13
Right Lane: Gary Densham Runs 8.620/95.57, Now #15; Best prior run: 5.144/240.59, Was #15
Gilbertson gets a little past half-track when the engine goes up in a big explosion. He hits the fire bottles and knocks down the flames. Densham loses traction, pedals, loses traction again and gives up on the run.
Left Lane: Bruce Sarver Runs 11.223/88.96, Now #9; Best prior run: 5.001/281.66, Was #9
Right Lane: Al Hofmann Runs 5.056/294.88, Now #12; Best prior run: 5.050/283.07, Was #12
Sarver gets about 100 feet out and blows the tires off. Hoffman makes a good pass, keeping it in the groove all the way through the lights.
Left Lane: Del Worsham Runs 4.925/303.30, Now #3; Best prior run: 5.000/304.19, Was #8
Right Lane: Tony Pedregon Runs 5.021/268.71, Now #11; Best prior run: 5.032/278.35, Was #11
This was a great drag race until the 1000-foot mark, Pedregon's engine blows in a ball of flame. Worsham makes a great pass and moves up to the third spot.
Left Lane: Jim Epler Runs 4.973/283.25, Now #7; Best prior run: 4.990/259.06, Was #8
Epler gets a little out of the groove but gets it back over in the center of the lane.
Left Lane: Cristen Powell Runs 8.061/92.23, Now #8; Best prior run: 4.977/296.57, Was #8
Right Lane: Jerry Toliver Runs 4.988/298.54, Now #5; Best prior run: 4.958/287.35, Was #5
Powell's car makes a move towards the centerline and she decides to abort the run. Toliver makes his third pass in the 4.90's this weekend.
Left Lane: Dean Skuza Runs 4.898/306.67, Now #3; Best prior run: 4.973/293.86, Was #6
Right Lane: Scotty Cannon Runs 11.405/71.27, Now #5; Best prior run: 4.954/299.20, Was #4
Cannon goes up in smoke right off the line. Skuza keeps the candles lit all the way through the lights for a great run and moves into the third spot.
Left Lane: John Force Runs 4.836/306.33, Now #1; Best prior run: 4.865/312.50, Was #1
Right Lane: Frank Pedregon Runs 5.002/240.94, Now #2; Best prior run: 4.879/308.71, Was #2
Pedregon tries to keep pace with Force on this run but he clicks it off about 1000 feet out. Force goes right down the middle of the track and sets the track record.
