Wells and Fleming Qualified Number One after Day One

EARLVILLE, Iowa -- In the first rounds of qualifying at Tri-State Raceway, Federal-Mogul Dragster driver David Wells and Federal-Mogul Funny Car pilot Randy Fleming took the no. 1 qualifying positions in their classes.

Wells, of LeMars, Iowa, outran the field with a pass of 5.566 seconds at 255.82 mph. And Indedpendence, Mo., resident Randy Fleming made a 5.884-second, 247.72 mph run to take the pole. Top qualifiers in other classes are Clint Sallee, Glendive, Mont., in Comp; Dan Larson, St. Paul, Minn., in Super Stock; and Steve Couch, Sidney, Neb., in Stock.

Qualifying continues Saturday at 8 a.m. Gates open at 7 a.m. with Federal-Mogul Dragsters and Funny Cars scheduled to qualifying runs at 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. Tickets are $15 for adults and $5 for children ages 6-12. Children 5 and under are admitted free when accompanied by an adult.
