Left Lane: Marc White Runs 5.829/250.83, Now #6; Best prior run: 5.805/252.85, Was #6
Right Lane: Kim Fritts Runs 5.935/242.89, Now #8; Best prior run: 6.976/136.43, Was #16
3:12 PM-We're back from a clean up in the right lane following the final pair of dragsters. This is the final session for these folks but no one will be bumped as there are exactly sixteen cars. Big move for Fritts as the team moves off the bump to the top half of the field. White was consistent in the other lane.
Left Lane: Jeff Craig Runs 6.885/145.55, Now #15; Best prior run: 6.271/218.37, Was #15
Right Lane: Pat Austin Runs 5.845/249.95, Now #4; Best prior run: 5.780/250.97, Was #4
Austin had some big tire shake from the 60 foot clock until around 150 feet. Austin managed to save the run and actually post a decent time. Craig launched hard but was off the pedal at around half track.
Left Lane: Vern Moats Runs 5.964/245.81, Now #10; Best prior run: 5.980/245.54, Was #11
Right Lane: Steve Addleman Runs 12.350/65.66, Now #16; Best prior run: 6.298/194.63, Was #16
Moats move up one position but Addleman has big shake in the right lane. He's forced to shut the car off and so remains on the bump.
Left Lane: Chuck Cheeseman Runs 5.755/250.41, Now #3; Best prior run: 5.729/251.86, Was #3
Right Lane: Frank Manzo Runs 5.877/214.93, Now #2; Best prior run: 5.726/254.66, Was #2
Manzo shook the tires hard in the right lane but appeared to drive through it. He did click it at around 1000 feet but I couldn't see why. Cheeseman has another good run to make up for the two sessions he missed earlier.
Left Lane: Bobby Martin Runs 5.882/242.58, Now #9; Best prior run: 6.024/243.37, Was #13
Right Lane: Scott Palmer Runs 5.882/243.41, Now #8; Best prior run: 5.965/237.92, Was #11
Great side by side run here. Both cars run the same et out to the thousandth and the qualify #8 and #9 to this point. These guys better go back to the trailers and their practice trees before round one, if it's this close.
Left Lane: Tony Bartone Runs 5.682/252.47, Now #1; Best prior run: 5.691/252.05, Was #1
Right Lane: Danny Townsend Runs 7.082/141.46, Now #11; Best prior run: 5.950/247.97, Was #11
Bartone just breaks their backs by extending his lead in class. Townsend gets close to the centerline and decides that lifting is a good idea.
Left Lane: John Patton Runs 6.053/240.21, Now #13; Best prior run: 6.013/241.37, Was #13
Right Lane: Bob Newberry Runs 10.961/88.00, Now #5; Best prior run: 5.799/249.39, Was #5
Newberry gets close to the center and also decides to call it off. Patton, in his first year as an Federal-Mogul Funny car driver, slows slightly from his best effort.
