Virginia Motorsports Park Joins IHRA

Summit Drag Racing Major Event Scheduled for Spring 2001



NORWALK, Ohio -- Virginia Motorsports Park has announced a multi-year sanctioning agreement with the International Hot Rod Association (IHRA) to host a Summit Drag Racing Series major event in Spring, 2001.

"Virginia Motorsports Park is excited to enter into a new partnership and business agreement with IHRA," remarks Paul Coleman, General Manager of Virginia Motorsports Park. "Over the last several years, IHRA has shown tremendous growth in many areas. Racer participation, sponsor activity, and fan attendance are just a few. We see tremendous growth and opportunity for us, our business partners, and especially the fans and racers who visit VMP."

This important agreement gives IHRA a presence in the important Mid-Atlantic region, enabling us to grow our racer, sponsor, fan and media presence. Team IHRA looks forward to working with Paul and his VMP team to show Virginia what IHRA drag racing is about."

In addition to a Major Event, Virginia Motorsports Park will host a Holley Sportsman Championship race and other IHRA races. VMP’s sanctioning agreement with IHRA begins in January, 2001. Specific dates and details for will be announced shortly. Coleman also announced that a NHRA Federal Mogul race scheduled for September 22-24 remains on the calendar.

Virginia Motorsports Park encompasses 700 acres that includes a 70 acre lake and 50 acres of paved pit area behind grandstands that seat 23,000 spectators. Located just south of Richmond, VMP had hosted NHRA events since the quarter-mile facility was built in 1994. VMP is the largest facility of its kind on the East Coast.

Headquartered in Norwalk, Ohio, IHRA is the fastest growing drag racing sanctioning body in the United States. IHRA-sanctioned professional, sportsman and bracket racing provides competition opportunities for drivers at all levels, developing future stars through the IHRA Summit Drag Racing Series, Holley Sportsman Championship, Super Summit Series and Briggs & Stratton Junior Dragster Series. IHRA recently entered into an exclusive, multi-year agreement with TNN to televise the Summit Drag Racing Series Sunday nights, reaching 84 million households in North America.
