Left Lane: Jack Wyatt Runs 11.503/75.76, Now #21; No Prior Run
6:40 PM Wyatt starts shaking the tires about 400 feet out and has to shut down.
Left Lane: Tony Pedregon Runs 5.042/289.85, Now #7; Best prior run: 9.412/70.09, Was #18
Right Lane: Tommy Johnson Jr. Runs 10.024/84.49, Now #20; Best prior run: 10.408/81.90, Was #20
Pedregon was mixing up cylinders from about half-track through the lights but ran good enough to get in the seventh spot. Johnson went up in smoke about 300 feet out and gave up on the run.
Left Lane: Jim Epler Runs 8.501/98.78, Now #16; Best prior run: 9.118/97.99, Was #18
Right Lane: Whit Bazemore Runs 4.833/319.14, Now #1; Best prior run: 9.641/92.02, Was #19
Epler started losing traction about 300 feet out, pedaled, broke the tires loose again and gave up on the run. Bazemore smoked the tires in round one....but not this time. He went right down the groove and jumps into the top spot for now.
Left Lane: Dean Skuza Runs 4.869/314.13, Now #3; Best prior run: 8.768/97.16, Was #18
Right Lane: Ron Capps Runs 4.826/311.09, Now #1; Best prior run: 8.853/93.52, Was #19
Capps had a .912 sixty foot time, a little slower than Bazemore's, but he came on strong through the middle of the run and takes the number one spot for now.
Left Lane: Jerry Toliver Runs 4.887/311.52, Now #4; Best prior run: 5.987/154.26, Was #14
Right Lane: Gary Densham Runs 4.896/318.35, Now #5; Best prior run: 8.696/99.52, Was #19
Two more good runs, not even a wisp of tire smoke from either car, and they both move into the top half of the field.
Left Lane: John Lawson Runs 4.973/306.22, Now #11; Best prior run: 5.041/301.81, Was #11
Right Lane: Al Hofmann Runs 5.429/190.23, Now #15; Best prior run: 7.857/106.64, Was #18
Hofmann was on a good pass, a .916 sixty foot time and 3.349 at halftrack, but something went wrong around 700 feet and the engine shut down. Lawson makes a good pass, improving from his first run, but he doesn't move up.
Left Lane: Del Worsham Runs 4.876/314.35, Now #5; Best prior run: 4.973/311.31, Was #10
Right Lane: Scotty Cannon Runs 4.821/315.78, Now #1; Best prior run: 7.636/113.10, Was #18
Cannon makes a great run, right down the groove, and he takes over the pole for now. No problems for Worsham and he moves into the top half of the field.
Left Lane: Frank Pedregon Runs 4.907/307.90, Now #8; Best prior run: 4.971/306.85, Was #11
Right Lane: Dale Creasy Jr. Runs 9.610/86.56, Now #18; Best prior run: 6.769/12.88, Was #18
Creasy goes up in smoke about 300 feet out and shuts down. Pedregon makes another good pass and moves up to the eighth spot.
Left Lane: Bob Gilbertson No Time, Now #12; Best prior run: 4.961/308.64, Was #11
Right Lane: Bruce Sarver Runs 4.874/312.17, Now #5; Best prior run: 5.977/165.22, Was #17
Gilbertson got out of the groove, drifted toward the centerline and finally crossed over into Sarver's lane. Sarver had sparks coming out of the left header all the way down the track. His ET wasn't hurt, he jumps all the way into the fifth spot.
Left Lane: John Force Runs 4.758/322.69, Now #1; Best prior run: 4.914/317.23, Was #10
Right Lane: Vinny Arcadi Runs 10.109/87.62, Now #15; Best prior run: 5.074/302.52, Was #15
Arcadi went up in smoke about 300 feet out. Force had a .887 sixty foot time, the best of this round by far, a 3.257 at half-track and he sets the track ET record at 4.758.
